It would seem as though the Aggies will win this one, given that they lost to the Highlanders by just 2 points down in Riverside. UCD was able to hold UCR’s leading scorer, Barrington Hargress to only 9 points on 3 for 12 shooting. It also would seem that he won’t be held to such a low total again as he seeks to make amends. He’ll be fired up, but the Ags should be even more fired up after losing the previous game when TY threw the ball away and Riverside’s Nate Pickens made an improbable 3 point shot. Plus, at this stage of the season Davis needs every win it can get. A win here would put them back in the top 4, given their sweep of UCSB.
I was had your confidence! Riverside is tough. That loss on the road really hurt - we’d be in the top four and in line for a sweep (tie breaker). I fear a let down in front of a small crowd but hope I’m wrong!
Mani scores 5! Maybe what he needs is simply confidence? Same for Niko on offense. He only seems to take layups and 3s. It's kind of frustrating to see him get the ball in the low post and not make a move to score.
Ags had an odd stretch there when UCR went up by double figures. It was sort of a "yesterday's oatmeal" period: cold and sloppy. If not for getting hotter and crisper (a "toast" period) at the end, this would be looking bad.
Despite the size advantage of the Highlanders. UCD has a rebound advantage 36-29 with 7:43 left. Wish there was more of a crowd for this game, as crucial as it is.
Too many turnovers and too many 3s from UCR overcome by a 17 point edge from the foul line. Crazy. Nice payback for the loss down in Riverside via a late game 3 by an unlikely shooter in both games. These two teams are really evenly matched. I'd hate to have to play them in a first round of the tournament.
Great basketball game. You gotta love that gutsy, clutch 3 pointer by Niko to win it for the Ags! He's such a defensive warrior in the paint and is so important to this team. He really deserves to have a moment like that to remember as a highlight in his basketball career.
Crazy we lost the turnover battle 16-6 and won! Free throws were a big difference. We were 22-27, they were 5-9 (free pizza!!).
Leo was huge last night. 13 rebounds and solid on both ends. Mani contributed 11 solid minutes - critical with Chappell out. Sevilla played only 14 minutes and took 2 shots, including an air ball 3. As many turnovers as shots, and he’s been our most dependable ball handler. I wonder if that was a matchup thing or illness/injury?
Key sequence was the end of the half. They hit a bucket with 41 seconds left to go up 8. After a TO, TY hit a 3, we got a stop and Daugherty made a late layup. Got it down to 3 points when it looked like Riverside was starting to pull away.
Great win! Way too many turnovers, but somehow got the job done.
I go to most of the home games, attendance has been really bad this year. Last night was just terrible, are they doing anything on campus to get the students to come out? Seems like you should be able to round up a few hundred motivated sports fans on campus to stand during the games and create a decent home court atmosphere.
I've been quite critical of Mani but I saw some play that really encouraged me. He blocked out well, he hit a good three and wasn't pushed around in the lane. But he still looks somewhat clumsy.
it seemed like Les substituted him in (practically ran him up to the scorer’s table to get him in) when Riverside made a substitution inside - when with a thinner guy who, it appeared, Mani could match up with. Hopefully this gives him a bit of confidence.
