Forbes compiled a list of "value colleges." UCD is No. 9. Overall the UC sysytem did well with the mother campus at No. 1, UCLA at 2, Irvine at 8, Davis at 9 and San Diego at 11.

Note that when the school receives favorable recognition, the Bee refers to it as "our region's UC Davis.".

Sac is No. 258. Do we get some sort of Causeway Cup points for that?

The Bee has a disfunctional almost paranoid relationship with UC Davis. Bee loves the Medical Campus in Sac (but rarely reports on it) but viscerally hates both the UC Davis Campus and the City of Davis. Why, because Davis and UC Davis are virtually Cities on the Hill compared to Sac. Davis with its vibrant downtown and beautiful neighborhoods (yes, and middle class!) are in a class by themselves in the valley. San Francisco has no undergrad UC campuses, but regularly applauds it neighbor UC's in Berkeley, Santa Cruz, and even sometimes UC Davis. There Bee wants UCD to invest in Sac? Let it start retuning its negative coverage on the city of Davis and their campus before that is even considered. IMHO

Wow, UC Davis is a top five Open Access University in the country. This is a metric that should be much more important than 'top university' which, of course is Harvard or Princeton et. Al. Because it is a measure of what the future will offer in terms of the democratic quality of our leaders to come. We need the smartest and the best leaders no matter from what economic or ethnic background or this country's in for a dim future. Finally, a good article from the bee (source: NYT).
