Ags beat Stanford in field hockey today, 5-3. Stanford has been the best of the four, now three, field hockey teams in California for several years. This year they are struggling. They split with the Ags and were swept by Cal. This is only the second time Davis has defeated Stanford in field hockey, the first time being 8 years ago in 2013. Today's game was not treated as a conference game.
And while I still think it is bizarre that we have a field hockey team, we might as well beat Stanford while we do.
The 2013 upset was actually one of the coolest sports games I've been to at Davis (in terms of product on the field, not the stadium experience at Aggie Stadium which was cavernous). It was a golden goal in extra time if memory serves.
It's a pretty fun sport, but it is weird that UCD is one of the three or so west coast teams that have a team -- and apparently some investment, too, given the dedicated stadium
They didn't remove it. I believe a complete rebuild, expansion, into a more uniform lap type pool, not free form. Out with the island and diving boards?
Article on renovated Rec Pool. https://www.ucdavis.edu/news/preview-new-rec-pool-next-week
The Schall Aquatics facility (water polo, swimming & diving) is somewhat south of the renovated Rec Pool and the football field. The field hockey arena is east of that, towards Tercero. Been a long time for me, I had to pull up a map and satellite view of the campus.
