  • MBB UC Davis (14-9, 7-5) at UC San Diego (16-8, 6-6), Thursday Feb. 12, 7 pm, on ESPN+
I wasn't counting but the Ags missed a whole lot of point blank shots. They're also playing like UC Avis again--no D. The only thing they're doing well is on the offensive boards but that's largely because they've missed so man shots.

Q: How did we get 5 turnovers and 9 rebounds and only have 9 points?
    A: 4 for 16 shooting.
  • Wilson named Big West Player of the Week
Seems like he gets better every week.

Thanks. I found it on ESPNU. I wonder who said what to Pasternak to set him off? Maybe he was just feeling neglected. You can actually hear Turner yelling "For what?" Needs to be on Sports Center.

I wonder if it will show up on ESPN? Why not let the whole country see it?
  • MBB Cal Poly (9-15, 5 -7) at UC Davis (14-9, 7-5), Saturday Feb. 7, 2 pm, on ESPN+
I forget where I read it, but I agree that Cooper's situation might reflect his intent to enter the transfer portal at the end of the season. "Might" because if he does want to get good NIL money he should be playing better to showcase himself.

No surprises. The home teams were also the ones with better records and they all won so we're starting to see some spread now. Bakersfield, UCR, and the Beach look to be long shots to make the tournament and Cal Poly will be trying to overtake Fullerton and UCSD for the 8 seed. We're in a three school battle for the 4 seed, but at least own the tie breaker over UCSB.

The team has been consistently inconsistent this year, but this game felt like one of those they would have lost earlier in the season. I'm hoping that they've turned the corner now and have learned how to win as a team and be consistently consistent. If true, then it should show up next week against San Diego and there's a real shot at a top four finish.

I'd rather have an ugly win than a pretty loss. Ags really stepped up half way through the second period, but they started to do better on the boards and the treys from the start of the half as I hoped/expected. I wonder what Coach Les told them during the break? I'm guessing one thing he told them to do was block out. They out-rebounded Cal Poly 23-11.

Maybe we'll win this one! Up 5 with 1:22 left.

This illustrates how poor an offensive game this has been: Through 24 minutes of play, not one of the 20 players who had spent time on the court had scored in double figures. Now Wilson has 12.

The most striking difference is on the boards. CPSLO had 27 v. 18. The Ags have no excuse for not fixing that in the second half.

Hard to say who is flatter, the fans, the Aggies or the Mustangs. I'm going to predict that both teams will start hitting 3s in the second half at a much higher rate. Of course, even 10% would be a higher rate fore the Ags.

My mistake, I was looking at footage from Thursday and thought it was live:( Aggies playing down to the level of the opposition again. zero for 6 from 3, getting out-rebounded.

Yes and that was Coach Les' mistake by his own admission.
  • MBB UC Santa Barbara (15-7, 8 -3) at UC Davis (13-9, 6-5), Thursday Feb. 5, 6 pm, on ESPN+
The one thing that I and everyone else forgot about the win over UCSB was that they were without their floor leader, Miro Little. In their 6 game winning streak, he was on the floor for every game and in the game before playing us, he scored 12 points, had 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Taking nothing away from the Aggies effort and a great win, it was a closely fought contest and I can't help but think the outcome would have been a Little different if their point guard had been there.

Pasternak is just like John McEnroe, right?
  • Big West Updates
The Aggies' win today keeps them in 4th place and drops the Gauchos to 3rd, but there is s till something of a log jam in the middle with five teams still 2 games over or under .500. Here are the scores of the Feb. 5 Big West games. The only upset belongs to UC Davis. Hawai`i was idle,

BlueGold nailed it when he noted that the Ags tend to play to the level of their competition and this was a great win. With Cal Poly coming in, I just hope there is no let down to their level. Wilson had a great night but it was a real team effort. Five Aggies were in double figures and six made at least one trey. The D was solid throughout although when #20 started to hit, it was worrisome. I think they took Sevilla off of him and the other players, being taller, were more effective at guarding his 3 point shot attempts. Cooper is an odd case. I almost wonder if he has mentally quit the team and waiting to enter the transfer portal. I hope not, because he began to show up late in the second half. so maybe Scott was right in thinking he has just had a lapse of confidence. Wish I could have been there and now celebrating with my friends.

For those who are old enough to remember, doesn't Coach Pasternak remind you of John McEnroe in both his temperament and appearance?
