Is anyone else going to watch the game on ESPN+? I can't find it there.

In Hawkins we trust to come up with a good game plan and the ability to adjust it not only during half-time but as soon as he can see what needs to be done. I can't believe that the players aren't eager to execute after last week.

I missed the last 12 minutes or so, but when I left the Ags were up by one, so it's my fault. Next time I go hungry. One observation: Milling's shot seems to have disappeared on him since Utah State.

Looks like we're coming back. Unfortunately, the game runs into my dinnertime, so I can't watch the end, but I hope they pull it out.

The 6'9" forward, Zidek, has made 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Ags can't stop that. They have to hope he and the waves cool off in the 2nd half and they almost certainly will since they can't shoot 71.4% from 3 for the whole game. Also, the officials are calling it close, especially on offensive fouls. Aggies need to shoot better and pass more. Pepperdine has twice as many assists.

Ags were a 1.5 point favorite? Tuition at Pepperdine is over $70,000?!

Very sloppy game so far by both teams. Waves are making some tough shots over decent defense by UCD. BlueGoldAg is right. Problem for the Ags is the cold shooting.

Ags relying too much on the 3-pt. shot, 5 of their first 7, hitting on 2 of them, though.

Pepperdine is rated to come in 7th place in the WCC according to Lindy's. They lost a scoring machine in Colbey Ross and hoped that they would have Braun Hartfield, a transfer from San Diego, to fill that role, but he must be injured because there are no stats for him this season. The guard that is leading them in scoring is Houston Malette, a 6' 5" freshman from Alameda. His height might give the Aggie guards some problems. I think it could be a close game win if our guys bring it like they did against Utah State.

For starters, I want to praise the UC Davis Intramural program. When I was there it was directed by a young man whose name I can't remember, Gary Colson (?), I think, but I seem to recall that he was honored for administering a really outstanding program that gave every student a chance to extend, develop or even start playing sports that not only provided some physical exercise but allowed for social and organizational development for both men and women. Speaking for myself, I never got a chance to participate in any organized sport in high school, so it was great to be able to play football, basketball, and softball with and against my fellow students.

In the more popular team sports, the tiered system (A,B,C levels) let a lot of student play sports who never would have had any chance at all to be part of a team. I had friends who never dreamt of playing competitive basketball, but got out on the courts and had a whole lot of fun.

I can't help but think it was the boomers who killed school spirit at least in Northern California. When I first got to Davis, there were all kinds of traditions and by the time I left, almost all of them were gone. For example, Homecoming was practically just another game. We did not think athletics was relevant given the issues of those days and I wonder if the current generation of students, facing similar issues, feel the same way. For my part, I never thought it was either/or and I was always a big fan of Aggie sports. Go Ags! Beat Sac State!

Are reminiscences about IM sports appropriate for this site?

Like Sisyphus' rock, it sure is a lot easier to roll downhill than to push uphill, but I agree with movielover that UC Davis should be around 10-11.
  • Week 11: Eastern Washington @ Davis
How does EWU recruit all these top level players? Are they all being overlooked by the power conference teams or does Best just convince them to come to Cheney? I can easily see Barriere playing for a school like Oregon, which might have overlooked him, but how could USC and UCLA miss him.
  • Week 11: Eastern Washington @ Davis
I'm becoming more and more convinced that we fans do not consider the idea of game planning to be as much of a factor as it is. In college team sports, coaching staffs have to recruit, teach, determine personnel assignments, develop tactics and strategize for specific opponents. The best ones do all of those things exceptionally well, but I got a feeling from today that the UCD coaching staff did not come in with a solid game plan. If not for special team plays for UCD and misplays by EWU, the score could have been 48-13, which better reflects the disparity in yards gained. Most of us noted the lack of establishing the running game on offense and I suspect that the offensive coaches thought that the passing game would work better than it did. On the defense, the coaches blitzed very little and that's a tough thing to second guess afterwards, but I wonder if they should have blitzed more? Of course, the players have to execute, but I don't think that the Aggies play fell to the level of the winless Tampa Bay Bucks when then coach John McKay was asked about his players' execution and he said "I'm in favor of it."
  • Week 11: Eastern Washington @ Davis
As good as Barriere is, a lot of credit goes to the Eagles offensive line. They opened some huge holes and haven't allowed a sack.

Fifty years ago, I was at the Miracle Game and left early. Ever since, I've sworn to never quit on the Aggies, but it's one thing to score 16 points in 20 seconds (a bit misleading, that time) against a Cal State Hayward, but three scores in 3 minutes against these guys is beyond the pale. I'm done.

If you're at the game, be very careful driving home through this fog. I'm originally from Natomas so I know how bad it can be for drivers.

I know that UC Davis has outscored opponents in the fourth quarter by a huge margin this season. Here's hoping that they can keep that up this time. I'm hopeful, but this being the first time I've seen Barriere, I see what all of you have been worried about.
