  • Men's 2022 Big West Basketball Tournament March 8-12
The site that Zander posted states that the window for waivers was from Feb. 14-25, so UC Davis would have had to apply for a waiver two weeks ago. I would think they would have announced such an appeal? If they did appeal (and why wouldn't they?), maybe they are waiting for an answer. I imagine that the players would be much more motivated if they knew they had a shot at the big dance. What the last two games of the season showed me was that this team is capable of beating any team in the conference if they playing as well as they can.

It's tempting to blame this loss on that offensive foul call on Fuller with the Ags down by only one, but after UC Davis was up by 7 with 3:04 to go, they made 4 turnovers and fouled the shooter three times on made baskets. Even the call on Fuller was correct as he slammed his elbow into the Titan players face. Aggies should have won this game and basically blew it. I agree that this is a ousy way to head into the tournament.

I meant hang on to the ball.

55-46 with about three to go! Hang on lads!

I sure hope ESPN+ gets their act together on almost all fronts next year. These broadcasts are unreliable, inadequate and amateurish.

This guy really needs a color commentator who knows something about basketball.

This announcer seems to be out of touch in general. He keeps calling Ezra "Munyun" and seems unaware of the calls in some cases. If he's not actually there, it might explain some of that.

Well, this forced interlude gives me a chance to get up on my soapbox and decry how sports in general has lost sight of why a game is played: to compete and try to win, regardless of context. Many people will not watch a game like this because it is "meaningless" but to the players and to those who like to watch a sport for its intrinsic value, it is still very meaningful. That's why I note now that I can "follow" the game on the internet, but it a much feebler thing than to see what is going on. What is going on is that the score after nearly 3 minutes is tied 2-2.

I hate the way they say "thank you for patience" when I am being anything but patient.

I think I read that Long Beach State had the regular season title wrapped up because of some tie breaker, but they lost their only game to Fullerton and they will have played the same number of games, so I don't get it. I suspect that BlueGoldAg and I might be the only ones among this group watching the game.

I forget who wrote it, butI think someone on this site noted that UC Davis will not be eligible for the NCAA tournament even if they win the Big West tournament. They need to have played 25 Div. 1 games and after tomorrow, they will only have played 22. Is that correct? If so, does that mean that the leagues tournament game do not count? If they do, UCD will have played 25.
  • MBB: UC Davis (12-8, 5-4) vs. Long Beach State 16-11, 10- 3) 7 PM @ Walter Pyramid, Long Beach
It would appear that our first round opponent will be Cal Poly. Finally a chance to get vengeance for a bad and critical loss.

I hate it when I'm right about the wrong things. "The Beach will not be that cold in the second half. Between the law of averages and adjustments by Coach Monson, they will make it tough on us." Right. "If we can hold our own on the board as we did in the first half..." We did, but "cut down on the turnovers, we have more than a chance. It would be great if Pepper could heat up." We didn't and he didn't until he stepped to the foul line with 7 seconds to go.

There can't be a worse way to lose a game.

    We still have a chance.

Time for a box and one on Jadon Jones?

Good to see Fuller out there. Better to See the Ags with a lead with less than 8 left. The Long Beach color commentator doesn't try to hide his bias, focusing most of his comments on what the Beach players do at both ends of the court.
  • Dunning Article on the Big West Tournament This Year
I suspect one reason why they don't want to have the first seed host the tournament is because it might involve all teams flying to and booking hotels in Hawaii, which--believe me--would be very expensive. Of course I, personally, would love it.
  • MBB: Big West Home Stretch
Note that even with both teams winning yesterday, UCD and UNSB are not tied for 6th. Rather, the Ags are in 6th percentage points ahead due to their having played fewer games. Thus, if both teams split next week, the Aggies will be 6-5, a .545 winning percentage, and UCSB will be 7-6, a .538 percentage. UCSB will take 6th place only if they win one more game than the Aggies. There's not a lot of hope there since we go on the road against the two best Big West teaMs, while the Gauchos host Hawaii and CSUN. Still...
