• Week 8: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
Shades of Idaho State. Can't wait for the fourth quarter to turn it on.
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
Some penalties are frustrating because the infraction has not affected the play, but the guy who blocked the kick was the guy who was offside. So...poetic justice. Of course, the color man missed that.
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
    Possibly broke some team rule?
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
Doesn't sound like the TV guys are Cal Poly homers. Wonder where they came from?
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
The television commentators were just as surprised to see Hastings out there as we were.
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
I hope the telecast shows some scenes of the campus. I used to go to San Luis Obispo every summer for National Guard duty at the nearby California Officer Training Camp. I spent most of my off duty time on the campus. It's a very nice one.
  • Bob Dunning Makes His Case for UCD to Move to FBS
I recall hearing that most schools lose a lot of money in their FBS programs, with the exceptions of the top programs like Alabama and Ohio State. So why do they do it? I've heard it's alumni pressure, publicity to potential donors and recruitment of students.
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Cal Poly
Back in the day, those who built pubic universities generally tried to place far from major urban areas under the belief that close proximity to such areas would distract them from their studies. Hence, Oregon State is in Corvallis, far from Portland, ditto U or O in Eugene; WSU in Pullman, U of Colorado in Boulder. Cal Poly, then falls under that scheme. I don't think UCLA was close to any urban areas when it was built and even Berkeley had The Bay separating it from The CIty. California and I think many other states also passed blue laws forbidding any place that sold alcohol be no closer than something like 10 miles from a campus. I don't know if that's still in effect, but I remember having to drive to the perimeter of that zone to get anything stronger than cough syrup.
  • FCS Polls After Week 7
Versus has UC Davis at #20!?
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
It's odd the way the Aggies start to roll in the fourth quarter. What's their point differential? Something like 88-6. It could be because the coaches finally start to figure out what works. It could be because the players are in better condition (very likely against UNC with so many players missing). It could be a matter of confidence based on recent history. It could be some combination of these things. It can't be random since the difference across all other quarters combined is 21-14.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Maybe the D's best game this season.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
I missed on that injury, Wrong #34.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
You don't want to see your best running back hurt at this stage of a game. Hope Gilliam's okay.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
D definitely keeping us in the game, holding the Bears to 124 net yards so far.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Bears have a big edge in time of possession: 18:40 v. 11:20, which shows how misleading that stat is. Often, it reflects the number of running plays, but UNC had 20 and UCD 21.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Jim Les will be the half-time guest on the TV broadcast.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
They're doing a little better than the last time.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Prior to that last drive, the Ags had 9 yards rushing on 7 attempts. Now 51 for 13.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
I think that all of the plays on that drive were run to the side opposite #34.
  • Week 7: Northern Colorado @ UC Davis
Look for what the offensive line does against #34, Hoage, for UNC. They should be double-teaming him after he's had two sacks.
