So the Ivy League did vote to cancel all fall sports.What is a bit surprising is that it made no commitment to moving any sports to the spring as was anticipated. Also, how this plays out with basketball which is sort of an hybrid fall/winter sport is unclear. I’m not a betting man, but if I was I would bet that the Big Sky and the Big West to follow suit soon. FBS football- anyone’s guess, but I would think the PAC-12 would be the most likely to cancel fall sports out of all the major conferences. SEC probably no way. It would probably play with Covid sick players instead off canceling. I also would not be surprised if Trump threatened to pull federal funding from any FBS school that cancelled.

I totally forgot about tennis! But I would hate tho see this as the only effective way to clean it up.

ICE decision not allow foreign students to stay in the US is bad news for Aggie basketball. WBB has 5 foreign players on its 2020 roster, basically 1/3+ of the team. MBB has several as well, but not the WBB numbers. I do not know how WBB survives this with 8 players.

Ivy League to vote on Wednesday on postponing football season to next spring. Atlantic Magazine says 98% chance that will be the decision. Sadly, Many feel this will be the first of many leagues to do the same. With the recent surge of the virus it is probably the wisest decision.

Oh how fortunes can change.The reasons are somewhat Covid related due to the shortened seasons this year, but the main reason is that UCLA’s major sports teams just are not performing well enough for UA. UCLA already has an $18.9 million shortfall in its ICA program now covered by a loan from the university. We all know about Cal getting a one time $25 million from the last state budget to cover part of its deficit. How many times will the state have to cover these Favored but losing programs, since we all are paying into the state budget? Not really a fair deal for the other UCs.

The Sac Bee has an interesting article today addressing concerns educators have about the potential liability school districts face over the COVID situation this fall. They fear a “perfect storm” brewing that will have schools dealing with lawsuits from both sides over mask requirements and other COVID prevention measures, i.e. what if your child who wears a mask is put in a class where the parents of some of the other children do not allow their kids to wear masks or social distance based on so-called “first amendment” rights? Both you and the 1st amendment parents could sue the school in this scenario. So says the article schools want indemnity from the state This coming fall. How does this not apply to sports at any level?

Ridiculous. Per NCAA stats- most “grad transfers” never finish their “graduate degree” and quit after their season ends. Pathetic NCAA on these rules. Really. Is Thompson actually going for s degree or just messing with the rules?

Can ICA sports go forward in thee Fall? It will depend on whether the virus statistics are OK per health officials AND (I believe) whether the players will sign liability waivers that hold the universities and conferences harmless should a player catch the virus. This is a requirement for attendance at the Trump Tulsa rally on Sat. Might be a precedent the president will regret making.
If your kid was a player would you let him/her sign such a waiver? I believe UC kids have to have health insurance. Don’t think CSU kids do. Unbelievable where this is taking us!
