The Enterprise answered some of my questions about this awesome event. The bagpipers were courtesy of the California Professional Firefighters Bagpipers and the Sacramento Firefighter Bagpipe band. They were great. Other sources tell me that UC Davis actually provided most of the support for this occasion, especially the audio and video for the event and the Pavilion staff to the quick turnaround from the basketball game and the fast set up for the event. On a different note, if anyone of you have any bit of Scottish blood in you and like bagpipes go to youtube and look under bagpipes for: Black Watch Regiment Homecoming Perth 2018. These troopers are just back from Afghanistan, still in desert camo and marching thru the streets of Perth to joyous crowds with the Black Watch Pipers leading the way. This is probably the best Scottish fighting unit in history. Goosebumps time!!!

So many of my friends and family have watched this ceremony, some over and over again. It was such an impressive show of love, affection and pride for Officer Corona. 8000+ people attended this event and were awed by the entire event; from the bagpipes to Billie Ray Cyrus it was as emotional an event that I have ever been witness to. I think that the most memorable part was the part at the end where Natalie is on the radio calling in with her call signs and final watch call. I was pretty good with the emotional part up to then but I lost it with this final audio. Many tears. I would like to know who put this great event together because they deserve huge praise for doing this so well. And, where did the bagpipers come from? Again I am very proud that our university hosted this impressive event.

Well, last year we got it all. This year not so much. It’s kinda like when the first of your kids graduates and she was your favorite. The next kids just don’t have the same thing. I know a lot of you know this stuff. Imagine how a college coach has to go thru this every year. But I will say one thing: they get paid for it none of us ever did.
  • Officer Killed in Davis
This was an incredible and impressive heart felt ceremony. I am so proud that our university was able to put this together and help with this event for the Corona family. Natalie will be in our hearts forever.
  • Bruce Edwards Says Ags Will Go FBS in 5-10 Years
BlueGoldAggie has a good point. But we have this very unusual love-hate relationship with the Sac media. The Sac Bee hates us and will only do stories on UC Davis when they absolutely have to- then they “like us” for a bit; but its really only stories about interesting individual players that they cannot ignore. Like China; Doss, etc. the only way I see doing this is if we manage to become a “Bay Area” school. That would mean a very hard slog for our AD, but I think the SFChronical would be on board for this. AD Blue maybe could do this.
  • Bruce Edwards Says Ags Will Go FBS in 5-10 Years
I’m with DrMike on this. The geography is just flat against us and we can do nothing about that. Sadly, it is all about TV revenue now and the West Coast cannot be moved to a different time zone to change that.
  • Officer Killed in Davis
I would think that Chancellor May will take these folks to the woodshed to prevent any demonstration on Friday.
Also, the event has been moved to the Pavilion for an estimated crowd of 6000 and which could very well be a lot bigger. Too big for the ARC. Good move by the admin.
  • Looking Forward to 2019
I had to laugh at all the hoopla about the Clemson football team getting served burgers at the White House. As a footnote to this story is the fact that the Clemson team actually has an “Executive Performance Chef”! She sets all the team meals and is quite the strict nutritionist. Now I don’t know if any FCS teams have such a person or even a training table, but we certainly do not. You would think that with our reputation in food and nutrition science that UC Davis would b e in the forefront in making sure our players eat a correct and nutritionally proper diet. I recall many years ago eating at the old Cafe Italia when all of a sudden the UCD basketball team filed into the room. Their meal: pizza. Not something an executive chef would probably recommend as a pregame meal IMHO.
  • Officer Killed in Davis
This will be a huge event. Is there any thought of moving this to the Pavilion? I have people coming from the Bay and elsewhere to attend this memorial with me. ARC may be too small for this event.

Limbaugh should not have been able to legally purchase in California the guns that he had at the time of this crime. He was convicted of a misdemeanor last year. Penal Code Section 12021(c)(1) prohibits a person convicted of a misdemeaner from owning a gun for 10 years. Any background check would have picked this up. I’m sure the investigation will shed light on where (legally or illegally) he got his guns. So yes, this issue of gun control will always be a part of this tragedy.
  • Officer Killed in Davis
Natalies killer was not an illegal immigrant. He was obviously a mentally ill person who somehow got a hold of a firearm and ambushed her without any provocation. We have to find a way to keep guns out of the hands of such people and we do have laws on the books right now that should have done that. I look forward to the investigation finding out why these laws failed in this case. Movie’s assertions are dubious at best, if not downright offensive to many of us; but that debate has no place here where we mourn Natalies tragic death.
  • Officer Killed in Davis
Thank you Blue. Good point. Where did he get those guns? That should be the most important issue at this point. Also, did he ever get any mental health treatment? Davis has or used to have a lot of access to mental health treatment- like walk in treatment. Wasn’t there a homeless drop in site right across the steet from the killing? This whole thing is so bizarre and strange that some grad student should make this crime a masters project as to the whys and what’s of criminal behavior in this day.
  • Officer Killed in Davis
I noticed that the Davis community has a vigil tonight for Office Corona in Central Park (1000 expected) and that the entire city has really rallied to her memory. I wish I could go. UC Davis students very much involved in this event. Years ago I lived in Davis worked in Sac. And Coworkers would always chid me with the “Oh, you live in that ridiculous People’s Repulbic of Davis?” Yada,Yada, Yada, Yada and a lot of you experienced this too. Well, I really miss that wonderful town where I raised my kids and could let them ride into town without any fear. Go to the best schools. Actually trick or treat on the streets without parents. It is so saddening that this event happened in what I believe to be the very best small city in California and I do mourn for all of you still there. I take one look at Officer Corona in her blue dress and cry! So sorry for her family. She will be truly missed.
  • MBB 1/10: Aggies (4-10, 0-0) at Irvine (12-4, 0-0)
I think I mentioned this before, but going way back Gorden Barranco was a great point. Went on to become a great Superior Court judge in Alameda. He just recently retired. Super great guy!
  • Officer Killed in Davis
It’s an absolute tradegdy that this happened to this beautiful young officer and in Davis of all places. Yes, I bet the community is devastated by this senseless act of violence. Why would a simple auto accident be the cause of the shooting of a police officer? Tragic to say the least.
  • Big Sky membership changes are coming
This is a good example of not Googling before you post. NCAA only allows for 15 full scholarships for an equestrian team; but they can be split up as needed. As a side note, Texas A&M has 60 riders on its team, so we do have a lot of work to build up this program.
  • Big Sky membership changes are coming
Equestrian team just posted its roster. 19 on the team. 3 out of state. It looks like many of them were able to transition from the club team to the ICA team without a problem. So that adds potentially 19 new scholarships to the overall woman’s ICA program (don’t know how many are actually awarded or are partial). But I believe it was pointed out previously that its the “opportunity to participate” that TIX looks at, not equality of scholarships. However, I doubt we could have hired our coach away from TAM without guaranteeing at least some significant scholarships support. First match Jan. 31 vs. Delaware State at home. Go Ags!
  • Big Sky membership changes are coming
72 very good! But do take note that there are also trans horses on the team. Geldings. I would argue they count towards TIX. . . But maybe they should be banned?. . . Oh, oh, in trouble- no politics allowed on this site! No!
  • Sears OUT at Sac State
Souixfan have you ever walked up into the Sac State football field stands? Not FBS in any ones imagination. Really a death trap; built of very shaky and old bleachers. Downright scary! But your ideas are interesting so stay on point. . .
  • Big Sky Exodous and Conference Realignments???
Wow Sioux. You have taken on a great venture here. Very exciting; but, you have to realize what we have to deal with here. Our Acedemic Senate basically controls our ICA endeavors, including all academic budgets. The AS likes to debate funding issues like fighting global warming, infectious diseases, economic disparities, poverty, international relations, etc., and you think they will take on a move to FBS? Siouxfan you are smoking too much of that great weed from the North; but i do wish you well on your very competent posts. Just that they won’t work too well here, sorry.
