Was great to see the Aggies win in Wa-Griz. My thoughts from being there (my wife and I happened to be in a group of otherwise 5 random Aggie fans to include @Idaho Aggie who was a very engaging guy.)

    - for the most part, Griz fans were very polite, and enjoyed visiting with a couple of them in the adjacent seats. Of course the few lubed-up obnoxious ones. ESPN probably avoided showing shots of it after halftime, but there were a lot of empty seats on the west side that remained empty (and increased in number) throughout the second half. Overall the atmosphere was kind of magical with the setting (M lit up on Mount Sentinel, crowd energy, etc.). Would have been better if they had a better band. “America the Beautiful” was horribly out of tune. Maybe they need to go to the portal.

-The Aggies were the more disciplined, poised, and better coached team. Big points in the game were TD drives immediately after the 2 Griz TDs. After the second TD response you could just feel that the Aggies were in control. The Griz fans were not expecting this for what was supposed to be a “magical nationally televised night game” at WA-Griz

Line of scrimmage was dominated by the Ags, and defense overall played marvelously. The good teams separate themselves with defensive play.

Special team play was good (my main concern going into the game). Only one kickoff resulted in poor field condition - Griz were ready for that pooch punt and Bergen-I think- just ran up and took it and ran. Banks-Altecruse did a good job neutralizing Bergen with only one semi-shanked punt and one great short-hop fielding of a low snap and his subsequent best punt of the night. Ridley was banging those field goals.

Was very happy for Jackson Cloyd who had a great game - good to have him back after early season injury. It appears Fisher is being worked into the rotation now. He looked good - patient for the hole to open, then acceleration - maybe he has been taking lessons from Lan. Simpson is a real plus. Not only catching the ball but also with blocking, and he brings an attitude (you’re not going to intimidate me) that was especially helpful in a hostile environment. Good to have him back. Ags have quite a tight end group. Another good game for Miles. A couple of near picks, but he did a good job in that environment communicating, and had some nice last split-second throws after moving up in the pocket.

A great night to be an Aggie.

Was it Fisher or Dobbins that had their helmet ripped off? I hope they're OK.]

    Dobbins, and he was fine.

that was the “main” Aggie section cheering. There was a little group of 5 of us on the opposite east side.

@Idaho Aggieand I are sittting together. One more long drive would be great. Dans starting to leave here.

One thing that I believe could be a big factor in tjis game is special team play - especially kickoff and punt return defense. Aggie punting has not shown to be a “flip the field” weapon with long punts. Also Junior Bergen is a real weapon who has the potential to return for big yards.

On kickoffs, my thought would be either kick it deep into the end zone (as always preferred I would think) for no return. If that is not likely (cold dense air, less responsive ball) then maybe a hard worm-burner squib that would go through many who are not used to handling the ball.

I guess I have bad memories from the game in Bozeman against MSU I was at 2 years ago when Hawkins had the kicker pooch kick and it did not go well.

Maybe ask him how he would do audibles in WA-Griz given the crowd noise. (Although we don’t expect or want him to give away anything that might give the opponent insight). So he certainly can decline to give details.

Like @CA Forever I would second how he has stuck with the inevitable ups and downs of any competitive sport and developed into a real mature veteran who makes very good decisions as evidenced by his play and team success.

Let’s do a bit of shredding.

one of my favorite all-time games was the Ags putting the hammer down in the second half at Wa-Griz and winning 49-21 after being down 21-3 at half. Several false starts at first but they settled in. At the time the most points ever scored by an opponent there. That was the last time the Ags played there.

Weber hung 55 on them this year in Missoula but that included 7 in overtime so I think that regular game record still stands.
  • Pac-12 set to add Boise, 3 other MW schools
As I recall from the bigs interview, a lot of football programs in California were dropped when title IX kicked in. Football was just too expensive to keep in lieu of those requirements.

hopefully (and I am pretty sure) not.

Bobby Hauck, aka Mr. Snarky. His treatment of his own press people is pretty pathetic. His press conferences are a pro forma 1. Sit and stare. 2. Awkward silence as press attendees don’t know what to ask without setting him off. 3. Ask typical non-insightful question benign question. 4. Get snarky answer and very succinct from Hauck. 5. Rinse and repeat.

Chachere almost single-handedly destroyed them. A number of gashing long runs. Didn’t think either team could stop one another when watching but Sac did a finer job of not stopping the opposition. What a decline since Troy Taylor left.

it is one of the unique cheers of Davis. That, in my opinion, is the beauty of college football - all of the different traditions. UCD is an ag school and we are the Cal Aggies as the sports logo indicates. It’s an endearing thing in my mind and in now way “tarnishes” the current status of the University. I think both aspects can exist.

I once hosted a Texas A&M student while at Utah State. When I told him where my BS was from he immediately said “Bossy Cow Cow”. I thought that was pretty cool. Of course A&M is pretty tradition laden so I responded with Hullabaloo Kanick Kanick (sp?).

I do very much agree that too much “ambient” music is piped in during college football games nowadays. Give me the bands any day.

    S/ old fart.

He was in the game. Lot of receivers to throw to. Gbatu has become a real go-to.

I noticed Simpson not in pads. Guess he was re-injured either at EWU or practice?

Hopefully CJ will be good to go at Montana, although Ags are pretty loaded at receiver.

Weather looks to be as good as can be expected for this time of year - hope it stays as predicted cause I will be there. @Idaho Aggie will be there too.
  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)
Don’t kick to Jr Bergen. Do not let special teams have much of an impact on Montana’s side. They rely a lot on that.
  • 2024 Week 10: Northern Colorado (1-7) @ UC Davis (7-1)
I think you want a dry, non-windy game. Aggie passing game is much more dynamic than Montana State’s. Their strength is the running game so poorer conditions would fit their game better.

I think Collier is OK. Something with his hand but they taped it up and he came back in.
