• Week 2: #23 UC Davis @ #2 Weber State
don’t know but that sounds possible. So the year status doesn’t roll over this fall? If that is the case fall 2020/spring 2012/fall 2031no change of status for anyone?

he’s 22 and a junior. Maybe medical redshirt. Doesn’t appear to be an LDS redshirt situation.

No doubt Weber is the prevailing strong favorite, but barring a poor turnover margin I think the game should be quite competitive and better than recent history. Weber’s weak spot the past couple years was QB - not enough offense to overcome JMU for instance so that is likely to be an improvement for them. However, and I know this may be an insufficient sample size, after seeing the Idaho game, the Aggie offense is loaded IMO with Crawford back and a bevy of receivers, a VERY serviceable backup to Gilliam (who continues to be stalwart) and tight ends who are faster than Preece. And when is the last time we saw an Aggie defense hold a team to 17 points on the road? Anyway, should be a good game.

The potential issue with considering fall games is that due to virtually no FCS schools having games, the few that played in the fall (limited schedule) oftentimes played FBS schools (some exclusively, e.g., central Arkansas and Campbell to name a couple- but as most of those who played only FCS are not playing this spring, the cost of going 0-4 against FBS schools becomes moot.

Does anyone know how many FCS teams are playing this spring? It looks like some of them played a good part of their schedule in the fall.

Good question. I think right at about 100 but I think I heard that quite a while ago. As you note some teams played on the fall (and many of those are not playing in the spring). Examples are Central Arkansas, Campbell and I think a northern Alabama.

I think (but am not positive) that fall games will not be considered in terms of possible playoff seeding

I think one thing maybe overlooked in the comments in this thread (maybe I missed) was the play of the offensive line. They protected Rodrigues well (and wasn’t it nice to see his nimbleness and evading a rush for a couple big plays) and blew huge holes for Gilliam and Larison in the last couple of drives. On the last TD Blake Thorpe (lined up a bit offset as a blocking tight end) was just looking for someone to block and had a hard time finding someone as they had been “previously detained”.

These FCS polls - especially early are a joke. New Hampshire 0-1 and ahead of Aggies. Illinois State 0-2 and ahead of Ags. I watched some of the UNI- Illinois State game (boring) and neither offense could do much of anything. UNI defense is good, but they look quite pedestrian on offense. I expected their offense to be better this year but I don’t see it . Illinois State QB was just poor (probably should just say passing game) and run game not much better. I. state 69 yards passing and about 120 rushing. Uni 145 yards passing 0td/1 int and less than 100 yards rushing.

From my watching some FCS games on ESPN+, first glimpse of Aggies and EWU (and of course Weber) make the big sky look pretty good in comparison and underrated- except for Weber. My bet is that South Dakota State will recover from their 1 loss and take Missouri Valley. Overall Missouri Valley is down this year.

Eaton needs to play. He was not just good, he was great. I can see trying him in the “ rush” position, but if that means he’s off the field for most plays it’s a mistake.

Riveraggie, I just rewatched the game (Bigskytv has replays) and Eaton was in for all but maybe 2 series. He was lined up as a defensive end (both sides) and I think in a bit of a hybrid position as he did drop back into coverage a couple of times. He looks like he has put on some weight (maybe intentional). I did see him get 1 tackle - he was at bottom of pile with a shoestring tackle so spotter did not see him. He may be getting used to a different position - he was not too effective at pass rush from that position but likely learning. Bottom line- he was in most of the game.

Aggies seem to be going with a bit bigger lineup including at linebacker. They have been rather small the past couple of years.

welcome to Tampax field at Roos stadium. Arghh is right.

hah. Yes. Got old. Making excuses all game long about missing personnel. Watching this first game, it seems the Ags are deeper than usual this year.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
Rodrigues played super in my opinion. No mistakes and a very accurate and confident arm. Also he was able to run a bit and avoid pressure, something that was lacking with Maier. Getting Carson Crawford back is very very big. Hard to get all of the talented receivers in. D improved over time and Idaho QB looked confused and lost confidence at end. I guess he may not be the best QB in the league (I understand those were his words).

    Victory Martini time.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
I think ok to pass. I think the no field goal was to avoid blocked kick and return for TD.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
I line blowing them out. And fantastic running by Larison and Gilliam.

    Major pat miss.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
yes he is. Made a move on that defender. Jock strap on the field.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
    That was a catch.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
Dumb play no matter what. But Rodriguez is really firing the ball in there. I don’t think there will be a QB controversy

    Is Gilliam being rested?
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ Idaho
I maintain that the Ags lost the game at UND when he left for injury. He is a great possession receiver
