• 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)

The sections 101, 102, 103, and 108 on the east side of the non-berm paid seating are sold to about 80% I think - that to me screams visiting fans. Still a lot of seats for sale in Section 109. I can think of a handful of times while being at UC Davis Health Stadium where it was actually packed enough that the MIB had to check my ticket number. I want that every home game!

Turnovers are always huge. I think both teams take care of the football during the game. Davis turns the warp speed O off and on throughout the game - we'll see what Plough's game plan yields on offense. I guarantee he'll have some different things planned for this one.

Ha, yeah, in the great Trojan War somewhere between the 12th and 13th century B.C. the two sides had two legendary warriors, the Greeks had Achilles, the Trojans had Hector -- Achilles was the greatest warrior of the battle, managed to kill Hector, but ultimately fell himself by the end of the War.

Davis so needs a walk-in UC Davis Team Store at the Stadium.

Might be the upset of the year right here in the FCS:

The stakes couldn't be any higher for Davis at this point of the year.

So, Big Sky has 4 teams in the Top 11, the Missouri Valley has 3 teams in the Top 5 and 5 in the Top 16.

I think this is a fair assessment. It'll have to be a some tremendous defensive game-planning and execution, a turnover margin win, and some luck for Davis to get the win in my opinion. The depth from MSU is simply a massive advantage.

Another key is the great players who play better will turn the tide, if Lan is bottled up, Hastings has to play out of his mind. If Tommy TD or the stable is running wild, then the Bobcats win, simple. I think Montana State has Achilles in this example - Davis working with a few Hectors, but we'll see. Davis does have the home field - the confines will be familiar - but in no way does a Davis crowd steer this game one way or another...unless, the Aggies are ready to yell, I'd be pleasantly surprised!

Nothing else matters - it's for all the marbles on Saturday in Davis.
  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)

No joke, Montana State is loaded. They have a full stable of powerful, fast backs and receivers.
  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)

These are all good points. Biggs had some, "how in the heck?" type wins - there were a lot of them.

  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)
I thought the program winning @ Tulsa was also pretty special.
  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)
Two things jump out at me watching Montana State film from this season:

    1) Elite offensive line play, and for that matter, great blocking out on the wings as well
    2) Fantastic speed at the skill positions, the group regularly finishes long runs with TDs

    Ranked FCS, Saturday, 11/9 storylines:
#3 South Dakota State takes care of a good North Dakota team in Grand Forks 38-7, very impressive win

#5 South Dakota absolutely destroys Indiana State 49-0 in Vermillion

Massive Upset: #6 SE Missouri State gets beat at Lindenwood 12-24
For those that don't know, Lindenwood is just NW of St. Louis

#8 Incarnate Word takes care of Lamar 41-20

FBS transitioning Delaware beat #11 Rhode Island yesterday 24-21

    #10 Mercer beats VMI 34-0

    #13 Richmond squeaks by 3-7 Campbell 27-24

#15 Abilene Christian gets by Austin Peay on the road 35-34, a hell of a football game, a late TD pass by the Wildcats put them up for the win.

#16 Central Arkansas loses again, falling to Eastern Kentucky 24-31

Of note: Formerly the Texas A&M Commerce Lions, NOW the East Texas A&M Lions (now 2-8) upset the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (now 6-4) 19-14

So based on this and what happened in Missoula, the Top 5 aren't changing -- maybe the committee will take USD's blowout win as an indicator that they're hot and should move ahead of the Aggies, but I think most would have a hard time justifying that with the impressive prime time road win Davis just banked.
#6 SE Missouri State will drop
    #7 Montana will drop slightly
#8, #9, #10 - Incarnate Word, Idaho, Mercer will move up a spot
    #11 Rhode Island might drop
#12 Villanova (8-2) will rise, they are really cooking right now despite a huge setback @ Maine a few weeks ago, and I think they're gong to be a tough team to beat in the playoffs.
#13, #14, #15 - Richmond, Tarleton State and Abilene Christian will up bump up.
