  • 2021 Football Recruiting
    ↪CA Forever
Do we usually expand the class during the winter signing period? It seems like some guys will hold out, hoping to get an FBS offer and when it doesn't come they sign with us later.
  • Big West cancels fall sports
    ↪72Aggie
Reading the press release it sounds like the Fall sports that were moved to spring have been cancelled. It seems a little weird to me that they are willing to continue on with men's and women's basketball but not the outdoor sports like soccer and cross-country. The most logical answer would be revenue generation.
  • Spring Schedule
Our schedule just came out. Montana state, EWU, and Weber st all at home. Travel to Cal Poly, Idaho State and Portland State. Pretty awesome schedule for us IMO.

  • New Helmets for the 2020-21 Season

An updated look at the new matte blue helmets. I’m really into them personally. Gives us just one more option.
  • MAC becomes first FBS conference to cancel fall sports including football, "Power 5" ADs weigh-in

    Thank you for the clarification.

Pac-12 has now also announced all fall sports are cancelled.

  • Will UCD cut any sports ?
I don't think they would cut equestrian. They were only added as a sport in 2018 and it would reflect poorly on the university to cut a sport that quick. Field Hockey is the obvious choice to cut. One would have to think their travel costs are drastically higher than the majority of other sports seeing that they have to travel across the country to play. Cutting field hockey puts us back into tittle IV issues that we resolved with equestrian and beach volleyball. I think the most likely situations is dropping field hockey and picking up women's rowing. (Turn the club team into an NCAA team. They did something similar with equestrian.) Or cut field hockey and a poorly performing men's team. Unfortunately that looks like baseball. I don't think they cut water polo because we have been quite successful and the head coach is an endowed position. The first such position in Aggie athletics history.
  • No Big Sky football this fall
    ↪agalum
I think it would have financially hurt us more to play. Losing the SJSU and Nevada game cost us $775,000. Would have been extremely difficult to lose that and have no ticket revenue. With a spring season there is *hopefully* fans in the stands buying tickets.
  • Big Sky Virtual Kickoff July 23-24
The Big Sky has cancelled the fall football season.

NCAA decides to leave it up to the individual divisions regarding fall championships. What’s the point of having an overarching board if they aren’t going to make a decision. Seems like the easy way out for the NCAA.

Even if we do end up fielding a football team in the fall, I find it hard to believe there will be fans in the stands. Outside ticket/concessions revenue, where else do we see revenue? Is there a TV contract with Pluto? Usually we would see revenue from FBS games but that looks unlikely as well.
  • New Helmets for the 2020-21 Season
    ↪fugawe09
I believe they can be used for up to ten years but I'm sure a program like Davis will be replacing them much quicker than that. Also with the speed at which some of these helmet companies are progressing technology, I would expect a helmet to only last three to four seasons but I could be wrong. Helmets are unique to the wearer in that one player's head may fit in a Riddell while a different players head may be better shaped for a Schutt, etc. I would thing that defensive and offensive lineman helmets take a bigger beating than say a DB but I don't have any data to back that up.

Football helmets have to be reconditioned every two years and assessed for things like hairline cracks etc. I wonder if that has something to do with why they can be painted.
  • FCS Patriot League cancels fall sports
SWAC has postponed all fall sports until the spring. They plan on having a 7 game season. 6 conference games with the option of scheduling a non-conference game as well. They are the only conference to announce a spring season thus far but I wonder if they see other conferences following suit, thus allowing for one OOC game. Big Sky football kickoff is later this week. I wonder if we are going to hear more bad news.

The CAA has also cancelled its season. The conference is giving the individual schools the option to decide if they want to play. JMU is probably their most notable team, and has announced they will look for other ways to fill their schedule.

  • Stanford cuts some sports
Stanford cutting field hockey could put the nail in the coffin for our program. Without Stanford, CAL and Davis are the only two programs left on the west coast. Makes it even harder to schedule a season in a conference that already doesn’t want us.

Edit: @72Aggie I think this will have a ripple effect across sports. Do we see a men’s sport cut because of it? And if so what sport. I know baseball has seen some close calls in the past.
  • Sac’s Thomson to transfer?
    ↪69aggie
Thomson is a grad transfer. Because he graduated he is free to play wherever he wants. Our new MBB transfer is a junior transfer. He would need an NCAA waiver to be able to play right away.

Also he is about to turn 25... 7 years removed from high school. I don’t know how he got so many years of eligibility.
  • COVID-19
    ↪69aggie
I believe they are referring to Janet Napolitano. The UC announced last week that they will be phasing our the use of the SAT and ACT for admissions.
  • Big Sky replays
    ↪DrMike
Yeah that’s the one! Always fun to go back and watch it!
  • Big Sky replays
I don’t know how many people know, but you can rewatch a ton of recent seasons Aggie games on watch big sky. I was able to rewatch the Maiercle game as well as this past years cal poly game! I did have some problems running it in chrome but worked fine in edge.
