@SochorField and @ucdavisaggie05 I agree with you completely. Script Davis, gold pants always, blue jersey at home, white jersey away. Concentrate on winning some damn games before you worry about playing dress up. I know that's old-fashioned, but this alternative uniform thing has really jumped the shark for me.
  • Two Font Logo
Script Davis and as an alternative this:

Let's ditch the wannabe Denver Broncos logo forever.
  • Two Font Logo
I'm not sure when this started; I feel like they were using it as far back as the 1990s when I was an undergrad. I did find this mark registered with the USPTO in 2010 http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4804:i8n4a2.10.131, but I am sure they were using this much earlier.

In any case, I'm with you @zythe. Let's start the petition - maybe drop a line to Dr. Blue? He understands that athletics is essentially marketing for the university at large and how important branding is in that effort. Maybe he will know the proper channels?

That's great news - keep it rolling!

Gentlemen, I found this great summary of the 2015 IFAF world championships (see link below). Apparently, it was set originally for 12 teams, yet only 7 played. But hey, USA won the tourney and we laid the wood to France 82-0 in front of 500 screaming fans... USA! USA! USA! Kidding aside, this doesn't diminish my enthusiasm for our staff in any way.

I LOVE script Davis and hope the team uses that 100% on their helmets next year. I also like the singular font on the schedule announcement. I've always thought our logo with two fonts looked goofier than hell...

Now Hawk just needs to land his OC/O-line coach from US National team and wenare all set. I'd take Helfrich and his $11MM as a backup though!
  • 2016 FCS Playoffs
just 10 years ago we were peers with NDSU. Read this article for a reminder: http://www.gobison.com/news/2006/11/4/51900.aspx

I believe under the right circumstances we can be their peers again. Call me an optimist, but it feels like Hawk can do it.

@NewGuy, I think you should read up a bit on Bob Stitt at Montana and the success he (and other major college coaches) have achieved incorporating the fly sweep into their offense. There is a big difference between "gimmick" and "innovation." I am also not sure why you are focusing on Hawk's coaches' most recent stops - look at their full resumes. These are very experienced men who have coached at high levels. We all have a lot of reasons to be optimistic. If we add Paul Wulff as our OC, the circle will be complete (and the rest of the Big Sky will collectively crap their pants).

@agalum, I personally would be very excited at the chance to add someone like Paul Wulff. Yes, he had a bad run as HEAD COACH at Washington State, but he had a hell of a run as HEAD COACH at Eastern Washington. Before he recently joined Sac State, he was with the SF 49ers (with Harbaugh), Iowa State and University of South Florida. This is a big-time coach and would be a great get. Don't judge the man for one season spent with a pre-existing dumpster fire. Plus he's currently an O-Line coach/Offensive Coordinater; we haven't named either of those just yet.

After watching Gould's staff of very young coaches, obviously looking at UCD as a stepping stone, I am absolutely delighted by the way Hawk is assembling his staff. This group is going to develop impressive game plans and just as importantly, make in-game adjustments. Something Gould's staff did not effectively do. And this group (collectively) has seen just about every in-game scenario you could imagine. They will not be stumped. This reminds me a lot of my days at UCD with Biggs, Arp, Lou, Moroski and the rest with 10-20+ years each. And the recruiting thus far has not fallen off. Count me as one very optimistic alum.

PS - everyone freaking out about the fly sweep needs to calm right down. I'm sure some elements of that offense will find their way into the scheme, but Hawk isn't going to implement the full offense. Speckman has a lot more to offer than his offensive schemes.
  • The Hawk Era - Bringing Fans to Aggie Stadium
    1. I think people will be surprised how many wins Hawkins gets us - I think the floor is 5 for 2017. That alone will attract attention and attendees.
    2. Hawkins' energy and ideas will be much better at energizing our students.
    3. I predict a winning season by 2018, even better results thereafter,
    4. In other posts, people have written that it is silly to think FBS - I disagree. "premature," yes; "silly," no. If Hawkins gets the institutional support he needs and the wins pile up, a couple of deep runs into FCS playoffs, and I'm not so sure FBS is out of the question. Sac metro area is hungry for major level sports. Why not?
    5. Anyone else check to see whether they had any eligibility left after Hawk's press conference. I know i did!
  • FB: Watch Dan Hawkins Press Conference Right Here at 10 AM
When Gould was hired, he admitted he had never set foot on campus before. Hawk is wearing his jersey and letterman jacket during the press conference. Aggie Pride is back!
  • I don't know the legitimacy of this... but Dan Hawkins to coach UC Davis
I feel like this just happened for the rest of the Big Sky...

  • BREAKING: Dan Hawkins to be named UC Davis head football coach
This is the greatest news. Dr. Blue has exceeded all expectations - i doubt he would make a move this bold without confidence that the administration will back him and give the program the support it needs/deserves. Perhaps he even has insight into the chancellor search.

This is DIVISION I FOOTBALL!!!! This team has some good talent - I predict at least a winning record next year.
