• 2018 FCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Anybody got Coach Best’s home address? He left a whole bunch of doubt in Frisco that somebody’s going to need to ship back to him.
  • Big Sky membership changes are coming
The only thing I’ve heard May and Blue say is they want to be successful on the field and in the classroom and that they want athletics to be the “front porch” of the university. Sac State has said similar lately. I don’t know if that is really FBS speak. I mean, what gets you mileage... being a big fish in the FCS pond (and we’re not yet until we prove year over year success) but not getting much media play or being irrelevant in FBS and playing mostly irrelevant teams, and if you have a really good year go to the Dollar General Bowl that nobody’s heard of and still getting no media play? Just ask Boise State and UCF how hard it is to break into the circle of relevance. But I see your point that enrollment-wise, UCD and Sac are larger than most FCS schools.
  • 2018 FCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
I'm all for innocent until proven guilty, but based on the reporting this seems pretty straight forward. Officers from two agencies saw him kick his brother unconscious. Plausible there could even be body cam or surveillance footage from the fast food joint. It seems like his legal case would center around why he did it (provoked? self defense?), not if he did it. If this guy puts a jersey back on, shame on the university and Best for not at least having team rules against street brawls. The reporting indicates that no further paperwork has been filed yet at the DA. Some at EWU are undoubtedly hoping this gets chalked up to boys will be boys, but if this whole thing really gets "disappeared", then I would hope somebody investigates that dirty laundry stench. I think Montana got slapped a few years ago for having some inside "fixers" take care of athletes' legal woes.
  • Big Sky Exodous and Conference Realignments???
If you look at rosters, Davis/Poly/Sac are almost 100% California recruits. Everyone else in the conference casts a larger net. They all go shopping in California, especially Southern California, for playmakers. It’s good for their recruiting if the California teams are bad but maybe not so for all of them if we’re good. Unless you really want some quiet time with nature (nothing wrong with that by the way), why would you go from LA to someplace cold with more coyotes than people and no liquor on sundays if there were better teams closer by? I’m sure there are some waiting to see if UCD was a one hit wonder or the real deal. And I bet the love affair with Sac comes to a close of they ever start consistently winning.
  • Big Sky Exodous and Conference Realignments???
I remember some wish/prediction drivel on one of the other boards too about Big Sky breaking up, either regionally in FCS or splitting up FCS/BCS. The gist was EWU and Montana being pissed about only playing every other year, with this somehow being the California teams’ fault. Also speculation about Central Washington wanting to move up with Humboldt quitting football.
  • Sears OUT at Sac State
Sac State High is still appropriate I guess.
  • Beach Volleyball Facility
Laying out four courts in a row along the side of the garage actually works well. Spectators can sit on the berm/terraces without having to look through another game. I feel like this has to be tied to the new football practice field (I'm assuming the team still practiced on Howard?)

I was involved in building a beach volleyball facility last year, and the funny thing is, that crowd kind of prefers the bring your own chair/tent/blanket scenario to stadium seating. On the Twitter posting, I'm surprised the university doesn't require at least class 2 safety vests for the equipment operator. My legal wouldn't have let me publish a photo like that!

With Howard Field becoming less than a fullsize field at this point, I hope it doesn't lead to the balance getting paved over.
  • Goodbye Freeborn Hall
It's too bad. It was a good venue in a prime location that is not fully replaced by any of the other newer venues on campus. Lot of character there, if those walls could talk! I read the full architects report a couple years ago and I seem to remember that the seismic retrofit was practical, but making everything ADA compliant was not, combined with crumbling air conditioning and plumbing systems that had not been well maintained since the 90s. The fact that it took 4 years to decide what to do makes it seem like we are paying some decision-maker entirely too much money. There also seems to be a funding problem where they can build new buildings but can't seem to clean, maintain, or update any existing facilities until they fall apart.

Welcome. Great pic with your son! Maybe he’ll pose for the same shot this time.
  • FCS Playoffs Quarterfinals: UC Davis @ Eastern Washington v2.0
and include an option to automatically purchase any home playoff tickets, should we be so blessed.
  • Looking Forward to 2019
they’ll certainly be looking for some revenge after pooping the bed in front of a home crowd. Gotta stay above any antics.

How was the Band-uh? They didn’t get much TV time, but the flash I got looked like Mav’rik not full dress. I would hope that with the support the fans rallied, they made a good showing.

You know any cash customer can go to the DC, don’t have to be a student. Saturday’s lunch menu includes tofu in black bean sauce, Mexican rice, sautéed spinach, curried lentils, piñata beef, and breakfast pizza, if you’re interested... Or you could go to Woodstock’s.
  • Get the Band-uh to Cheney
IIRC, one of my trips to EWU their band was a no-show and we had to play the national anthem on their behalf. They hadn’t asked ahead of time, we found out as the announcer was saying it. Good thing we know that one!

I wore the old uniforms, which were also wool. When it was hot you were hot, when it was cold, you were cold. Long underwear a good call for sure.

Longest bus trip I did was to Conway, AR straight through. Wouldn’t have traded it for anything.

In 2005, the football team’s charter plane to Fargo fell through the week of the game, so the Band handed over their commercial flight tickets, sent the manager to rent whatever cars they could get at the south davis Enterprise and put a note on the band table in the coffee house that basically said get to the band room we’re driving. Nobody told the bureacrats and risk management had a coronary when they found out.

my experience with brass instruments is its harder to play high notes and playing fast is more difficult (frozen fingers). For sure temperature affects tuning the instrument so it’s all about keeping the horn warmed up by blowing air through it and constantly adjusting tuning slides. Keeping mouthpiece inside jacket chest pocket helps too. Valve oil is basically kerosene, so I didn’t have a problem gumming up too bad. The Band used to play up at Tahoe ski resorts (skiing down the mountain while playing). If it’s a wet game, brass instruments are ok but you need to keep woodwinds dry-ish
  • Get the Band-uh to Cheney
Looking forward to a bold, blue, and bitchin’ Band-uh showing EWU what’s up. I’m loving this hot streak of Aggie Pride. And glad it had brought some first-time posters to the board. Go Ags!
  • How long do Coach Hawk and Coach Plough stay?
Hawkins is 58. Who knows how long he plans stay at it, but UC has a pretty cushy retirement package.

Kevin Blue is 30-something. I bet somebody takes notice of him.
