FWIW, I wasn't expecting championship level athletes or teams from Coach Gould, but hoping to get to 6 or 7 wins ... which changes the equation. Six or 7 wins makes us stronger in recruiting, and at 7 wins maybe we even get a playoff birth. This is what I think many hoped for with Coach Gould.

That kind of progress then brings Momentum for facilities improvements, and continued success in recruiting.

OldAggie, did you just see non-scholarship USD paste Cal-Poly? No schollies, probably no state of the art Training Facility, either... which I am not against... but it's not an excuse... I really don't think new coaches offices will get us 4 more wins a year.

Now time for fundraising to kick into high gear.

  • I don't know the legitimacy of this... but Dan Hawkins to coach UC Davis
Dr. Mike, question. I know that Hawk benefited from having Chris Peterson as an OC... is Hawk himself sharp on offense?

I'm sure Blue knew that unless Coach Gould got 6 or 7 wins, he likely was gone. Blue has great timing, he has had some relatively easy administrative "wins".

    Go Ags!
  • BREAKING: Dan Hawkins to be named UC Davis head football coach
In Hawkins second year at Colorado they went 6-7, 4-4 in league, and played in the Independence Bowl.
  • 2017 Recruiting
Yes, he should be odds-on favorite.

Ironic Scott played so well in his last game... was that due to a weak Sac State, or did additional pressure to perform (Gould said he would split time with Spencer) focus his mind?
  • I don't know the legitimacy of this... but Dan Hawkins to coach UC Davis
We already have a Frosh QB committed. He is one of the four.

I wouldn't mind if his son were a lower-level assistant. NOT the OC or QB coach ... we don't have that luxury, and his coaching resume is thin. "Connections" are a different universe.

    Gotta love local coverage.

UC Davis announces there next head football coach will be Dan Hawkins - a big get for that program."

    there?

First a winning record, then the FCS playoffs and new facilities.

I'm betting the current and future Aggies are fired up!! (Though I thought I read a Bulldog fan saying they may try to cherry pick "athlete" and UCD commit Perryman.)

    This could be UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGG!!!!

Can Hawk bring in an innovative OC like Troy Taylor? I hope he can resist the temptation to bring his son Cody along ... we don't need distractions.

I believe Hawk is TIGHT with Foster, so he probably already knows the skinny... and Foster doesn't beat around the bush.

Key questions: Do we need to nail down a 5th QB? Can CJ Spencer (or Brock Dale) get us to 5 or 6 wins next year? (Two of our QBs will be newbies.)

Could be a better recruiting season than Gould & Co.? ... I'm fired up!!!!
  • Who is your current choice for HC for the Aggies?
Interesting...does anyone know when our players started voluntary self directed summer practices? Last summer was the first time I heard rumor of them. I know summers past where QBs, WRs spent a lot of summertime together. Oline too.
  • Who is your current choice for HC for the Aggies?
How many months did it take to hire a local unemployed position coach?

We should have some great applicants. Go Aggies I
  • Coach Gould
    +2.

I took it for what it is. An undergrad got to spend half an hour with a gracious coach, probably their first interview with a DI FB HC.... we were once this young.
  • Coaching Candidates
An issue when Hawkins failed at Colorado was a QB controversy involving his son Cody.

Wikipedia: "On November 6, 2010, Colorado blew a 28-point fourth quarter lead over the Kansas Jayhawks and lost, 52–45, the biggest collapse in the 121-year history of Colorado football.[7] While still nursing that large lead in the fourth quarter, Hawkins continued to have his team throw the ball on offense instead of running it, allowing Kansas time to mount its comeback. There has been widespread suspicion Hawkins made that choice because he was more concerned about his quarterback, son Cody, breaking the school's all-time passing record than winning the game.[8]"

He has coached with his son, and his son now coaches high school football in Oregon. If Hawkins comes to Davis, does he bring his son?
