Given that the current mortality rate for young people is lower (or far lower) than the seasonal flu, are we now looking at regular shutdowns on college campuses?

Unfortunately, most people haven't spent significant time in African American communities, many don't have long term, intimate relationships in the AA community, and few have read any literature on the topic beyond liberal mainstream tripe. I have.

No expert. Yet I'm embarrassed for the elite young liberal Progressives at CNN for starting off your posted article with an inflammatory, decades old topic.

Here is a short CSPAN clip from Stanford professor and author of 13+ books, Dr. Thomas Sowell. No matter your leanings, he has knowledge, historical perspective, and international comparisons.

My reply wasn't aimed at you, brother (or sister). It was to this: "Someone in a class was complaining that the football team only had like half a dozen or so African- American players (and yes, they said discrimination was involved),..."

I was listening to some old Dr. Thomas Sowell interviews. He asks when does he ever see a business or occupation employees proportionally distributed by age or ethnicity. There are hundreds of reasons why people make choices.

Baseless claims of racism so tiring. I believe the UCD African American representation has run around 2% for decades.

If no ICA for a number of months, why not furlough a big chunk of the department? Lots of directors, asst directors, assoc directors.

Meanwhile Governor Cuomo of New York, the epicenter for Covid19, says New York schools will be open.

FWIW, a friend on campus says there is now some activity, and it looks like some older structures - Young, Chemistry, etc - are having some work done.

Maybe start camp a few weeks late & / or a shortened season?

Or the Spring season could be flag football.

(I believe we'll look back on the attack on the HCQ cocktail - cheap, safe, proven - as unprecedented.)

Todd Lowdon@tlowdon "The latest CDC provisional data shows that, in the US, only 42 children aged 14 & under - and only 244 individuals aged 24 & under - have died "with" or "from" COVID-19. The risk to young people is extremely low."

Especially since there look to be many downward indicators, and it primarily effects those 75+. I've read numerous claims the mortality rate is now well below the seasonal flu. And then the HCQ drug combo is attacked, I don't ever recall such an occurence to a safe, cheap drug.

Maybe they just delay the season?

This article might add some sunlight to the Big Sky's / Covid potential risks. Look at the infection rate, per million, in North Dakota, Montana, etc.

We aren't New York, or the Bronx.

Outkick: FLORIDA, TEXAS, AND CALIFORNIA HAVE A FRACTION OF COVID DEATHS OF NEW YORK, by CLAY TRAVIS

"As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases surged in Florida, Texas, and Arizona over the past six weeks a breathless media covered the daily numbers with fever pitch intensity. America was in the grips of a second wave they gleefully reported, the deaths we’d seen in New York were now poised to descend upon red states that had opened up too quickly...."

"And then, just as the media feeding frenzy was poised to take off to unimaginable levels, the deaths never came...."

"Here are the deaths per 1 million rate in this country for all fifty states:

    1. New Jersey 1,792
    2. New York 1,685
    13. Arizona 519
    19. Colorado 320
    28. California 238
    37. South Dakota 153
    39. North Dakota 138
    47. Montana 60

"These two states literally have the worst death rate in the entire world.... [per capita basis]

    New Jersey 1,792
    New York 1,685
    Belgium 849
    England 680
    Spain 608
    Peru 594
    Italy 582
    Sweden 568
    * [No lockdown]
    Chile 502
    United States 478

" “How is it possible that New York has fewer cases and more deaths than California, Texas, and Florida combined? Especially when Florida, Texas, and California have 90 million people living in their three states compared to New York’s 19.5 million"..."

A lot of games aren't packed to begin with. Spread em out, and maybe have an age cap (70? 65?).

Regarding the health of students, those under 30 already have an extremely low mortality rate.

Rarely does anyone mention the 'unintended consequences' of our prolonged lockdown - reportedly spikes or huge jumps in suicides, attempted suicides, drug & alcohol use, domestic abuse, depression, etc. I believe these are some of the reasons why football was played during the Spanish Flu.
