2018 we had Keelan Doss and Jake Maier. We also had bang-bang uptempo offense where we hit San Jose State and maybe San Diego State instantly.
Our defense seems stout this year, they may have an edge.
Kudos to Hastings and Cody Hawkins for a very successful passing game. Coach Hawk lauded our depth, 2 weeks should be enough time for OL Coach Mike Cody to sync the offensive line and move a player, if needed. If we need to play 3 QBs, so be it. Next man up.
P.S. Saw a clip of Coach Ron Gould coaching with a cane. I hope Coach is doing well.
Coach Hawkins may be a tad optimistic saying this is our best team ever. Two O lineman down seems to have thrown us off, the QB position is so critical, and it remains a question mark. 2018 squad was special.
Good point by DK and Marsh - if Thorpe is so valuable, can't we play him as a big WR?
Hastings has had 2 starts.15 of 27 vs Idaho w one TD.
Last night college start # 2 - 28 of 34, 82.5% completion rate and 2 TDs when his protection was below average. Passer rating 147.7. Hard to knock that.
I would argue we haven't seen everything Hastings can do. He seems more mobile than Maier.
We have a better bead on HR. He started a year in junior college, spot duty, 5 spring starts and 6 this year? 11 starts total, plus 10 or so junior college starts, so 20 college starts. Hastings has had 2.
20 of 21 still impressive, especially with the OLine issues. I believe the radio crew was annointing Hastings our new starting QB after the first half. I believe they also said Thorpe may be our best WR.
Ball control offense / West Coast OK w me, especially if we start to mix in TEs and midrange passes.
If we don't have a clear starter, having 3 QBs with experience has advantages.
Listened to the first 3 Qtrs on the radio. Hastings 20 of 21 in the first half. Did he look that good, or a lot of short dump off passes? (Still outstanding.)
Marsh & DK were alone on the opposite side of the field, no stats and no lighting (dark room?) for a while. Not sure why they couldn't pull stats off their smartphone. Who bumped them, ESPN?
It doesn't work when high school coaches are correctly predicting play calling in the stands. He decided not to use our talented tight ends and Dalton Turay so we could play the Stanford offense.
It appears he is part of a threesome of DEI additions which includes a Houston / DC based writer, and the vitner for Le Pelle Wines. I went to his website, all 5 wines are sold out.
The description of the Executive Board includes "wine appreciators and selected colleagues".
Some of the previous discussions included 3 states, which made more sense. Southern, Central (including San Francisco), and Northern California (rural, North of Marin?).
Not hemorrhaging, worse. Over $10M a year deficit? Plus hundreds of Millions of dollars in debt from the facilities upgrade and retrofit, and now no fans w disaster FB season.
