    Don't forget MMA.

Mrak Hall wanted to hire a black coach, so if I recall, they passed over candidates like Tex Winter to hire Lonnie Williams. Williams also challenged a student athlete to fight, and that SA happened to be a Kodak All American. If memory serves, The Aggie dug into this and it blew up in AD Jim Sochors tenure.

He went on to be a HC at junior college and DII programs.

  • Aggie Pride: A UC Davis Football Podcast

What wide receivers did we lose? Hutton, Davis, Tompkins, Larrison (RB), and sparsely used Mitchell Dixon, along with tight ends Winston Williams and Josh Gale. Did I miss anybody?

Losing 6'4" Robbie Mascheroni may have been a big loss, we'll see. Out of HS he had offers from UW, Oregon, and Cal? Some could have been WOs. It's a tough balancing act w so many senior WRs. Another reason I voiced support for PT for Fisher and Dobbins - we don't want kids losing hope and entering the portal.

I saw on ESPN+ that long-time coach and calculus professor Dr. Kouba was at the game sporting his Division II National Championship ring and watch.

It would be fun to see Kouba compete w Les and Nosek in a legends shooting contest. Kouba was a gym rat in Rec Hall for decades.

    Lance 29 of 34, 244 yards, 0 TDs, 0 picks. 6 rushes for 26 yards. Cowboys lose by 4.

Athlon Sports: "2. TRÈS BIEN?: Was Trey Lance "very good"? Nope. In fact, in looking back at his start in the final preseason game on Aug. 24, he wasn't improved one bit. Here we are five months later, with the same criticisms about him seeing things late, delivering the ball late and not showing NFL-caliber accuracy.

"Of course in his preseason showcase, he threw five interceptions. So, we guess that's improvement?

"Lance wasn't picked off Sunday (though Luvu did drop an easy interception early), but he did throw late and long to three open receivers in the end zone. Each time by the time the ball arrived the receiver was out of bounds and unable to make a catch.

"He ran well again and displayed his athleticism, one time escaping a sure sack only to have a wide-open receiver in the end zone but throw the pass like a dart instead of a football for a harmless incompletion.

"Lance is different than Cooper Rush. But he's not better than Cooper Rush."

I've seen no evidence that Coach Les likes bigs, or knows how to use or coach them. He has a guard-oriented offense, and typically one forward (4) competing for rebounds vs two bigs. When they have two bigs and an athletic 3, we're really in trouble.

Adenrele was 6'7" (and I think he inherited him from Stewart), Moneke was 6'6". It's gonna be tough to win in the MWC with that kind of size, and we go nowhere in the tourney. Les' ideal is probably somebody like Rocak, 5.5 PPG, 7 RPG, and 1.5 BPG, or Mani bc he can shoot the 3, which fits his offense. But it sounds like he's soft.

Early in his tenure here Les ran off serviceable big men, recruited new big men, and then didn't play them. Maybe Isaiah Chappell develops this year. 6'9" F, can shoot the 3, and had 6 points tonight, hitting all of his shots. Go Ags.

  • MBB: UC Davis (8-6- 2-1) at CSUN (10-4, 2-1), Saturday, Jan. 4 at 3:00 pm
Why didn't Jac Mani play? Is this bc Les plays 3-4 guards, 1 big, and Rocak is playing so well?

Johnson 3-16, Seville 2-9, DeBruhl 2-11 on FGs. The threesome 3 of 17 from 3.

Les' guards shooting poorly on the year.

But what about guys who signed 4 - 5 year deals?

I know the reality is that coaches have ways to move players / push them out, and students who think they can play don't want to be black balled.

The Tre Lance draft pick review. I originally noted my misgivings, esp after reviewing the online tape - limited passes, often to the sidelines, few deep routes (50% completion rate). No repertoire of throws. FWIW, Brock Purdy was unmentioned.

    NFL Career Stats
    Tre Lance: 61/109 / 56% / 819 yd / 5 TD / 4 INT / RTG 80
    Purdy: 722/1069/ 67% / 9518 yd / 64 TD / 27 INT / RTG 105

69Aggie: "I am a very long time Niner fan. I like this choice of Lance.... I think mobility at the QB position is the new thing in football. Yes, for the Niners and yes for the Aggies. So Lance is the right choice for the Niners...."

NCAgalum: "Personally I think Lance will be a good NFL QB but I think he has been a bit overhyped due to the team he had around him... I think he will take a few years to really mature and get comfortable - time will tell."

69Aggie: "I think he will be the next Kap. His running ability will cause all sorts of problems for opponents even if his passing is not great. It’s the new NFL thing: mobility. IMHO"

DrMike: "69aggie I think he’s much more accurate than Kap. He never seemed to hit a receiver in stride."

Many other posters noted FCS players stick every year, even DII /;DIII.
