I concur. However, there're mitigating circumstances. Harrell was injured (back) early in the ND State game. He was able to finish that game, but re-injured his back at the beginning of the Montana game and didn't play at all against North Dakota. Crawford suffered a season ending injury against North Dakota; winnable game under normal circumstances. Not sure when Kraft went down, but his was also season ending. There were other untimely injuries as well.

It's a big ask of the OC and QB to re-calibrate their schemes. We didn't take the top off defenses like last year and our intermediate and seam routs (especially Preece) suffered as a result. Hats off to the players and coaches for their resilience and efforts this season. They comported themselves with Pride and Dignity.

On the flip-side, some of the refereeing we encountered was - shall I say - head scratching at best!

Let's not forget that the Aggies were 5-6 two years ago (2017) with the same stud receiver (Doss) and QB (Maier). As was illuminated, many factors affect a team's performance and ultimate record. For myriad reasons 2018 was a magical season; 2019 as much.

Congratulations and many thanks to the seniors that have played their last game for "Aggie Pride". It takes a lot to strap-up everyday and step onto that battlefield. We're extremely proud of you!!!!

That's precisely what I'm saying. Saw others do it to us with reasonable success. Speed kills (metaphorically of course). If nothing else, it envolks FEAR in DBs which can lead to coverage mistakes.

With all due respect ml, sometimes you have to throw your receivers open. If our receivers are beating their defenders off the line, why not throw it early and let them adjust to the ball in-flight. That's a coaching adjustment - in my opinion. Easy to play what-ifs after the fact... I totally agree that next spring should prove quite interesting.

There were Davis receivers embarrassingly open behind MSU's defensive backs; balls were never thrown in those instances. It's almost as if Davis doesn't have any press box spotters. Does the Big Sky prohibit discussion between the press box and sideline coaches? Strange!

A few more observations from a biased perspective.
UC Davis fans are not very energetic - don't really do much to inspire the team (3 yr. observation) - cheer/quiet at the wrong times.

Officiating was suspect at best, just review the tape. The obvious (not called) Pass Interference against Kris Vaughn, and the Personal Foul (blindside block) on Carson Crawford for blocking a defender that was in the vicinity of the (live) ball carrier were huge. Both costing Davis crucial first downs. There was also an incident where a Montana player clearly taunted a UC Davis player directly in front of the ref w/o so much as a warning. Now I'm old-school and could care less about an opponent mouthing-off, however, as I understand today's kinder / gentler game, taunting is a strict no-no (15 yd Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty?). Not so different from last year, I guess! There were numerous "non-calls" that affected play as well (stuff happens). And let us not forget the multiple "timely injuries" sustained by Montana's players, effectively resulting in both Davis momentum killers and uncharged Montana time-outs (or is it times-out?). Not an officiating issue, but I chose to mention it anyway.

With that said, I hope every player is ok! (real)

Now none of these things alone cost US Davis the game - they were dismantled. Viewed through the broader context of this contest, their impact cannot be summarily dismissed. It doesn't take much...

You mentioned Greyshirts. That's a distinct possibility as they sign an NLI (2016) but count towards the 2017 scholarship allotment and doesn't compromise their redshirt year. Combine that with available scholarships from previous years...

Not certain how FCS works, but the JC transfers could be using some scholarships available (on the books but not currently assigned) from prior classes, e.g., 2018, 2019 and/or 2020 graduating classes.

Yes we have... The 2016 recruiting class had at least three (3) - 3 star* recruits: WR Kris Vaughn (Redlands East Valley, CA), DE Brandon Jamison (Chaparral, AZ) and WR Jared Harrell (St. John Bosco, CA).

Great get indeed! It's my belief Davis lead Princeton until the firing of Gould (and staff). This weekend's visit was obviously impressive enough to "flip" him back. Kudos to the coaches, players (hosts) and staff.

Logan Montgomery actually committed to Princeton (11/25/16) a few days after Gould's termination. Also, his twitter states financial, academic and athletic motivations for "flipping" his commitment, As we know, Ivy League schools don't offer Athletic Scholarships.
