I thought Tamba was out also, but maybe his JC year now doesn’t count? I would imagine Borra has a year left since he never stepped on the floor this year.

A possible upside to the House agreement is that, with a somewhat standardized (although how schools chose to pay is arbitrary) and some limits in outside NIL (we’ll see if that happens), there may be a big decrease in transfer portal.

I think they will to fo something radical in the next 5-6, focused around a football super conference. Maybe all other sports go back to manageable geographical conference.

Feels like this house agreement (pay up to $23M to athletes, and the big jump in overall scholarships) is one big step to separating the D1 schools.

I guess it’s a good time to be a sports lawyer - seems like nothing is off limits when suing the NCAA!

I think your ‘30 years’ is off an order of magnitude.

portal activity is crazy everywhere. Guys are trying to get their big payday (not the case at Sac, I would think) before the house agreement comes into play limiting NIL.

Cal lost their top two RBs.

This whole thing has a Deion Sanders shock and awe feel to it (down to the cowboy hat!). But I don’t recall Deion bringing in players with that kind of luggage to either Jacksonville or Colorado.

Hopefully this new recruit with felony charges can hook up with the lawyer of the other guy with felony changes who somehow avoided prison despite carrying a kilo of dope into an airport!

what did they do to promote? That’s a crazy big crowd. I’d like us to have a giant BBQ for students to get them out there. Not enough diehards over here to fill up the stadium for a spring game without doing something special

that is surprising. He would have been their primary scorer next season.

I wonder if he consulted Bryce Pope on this decision?

Football ended up way ahead of the others with around 250 donors and a total of $84. I think they marketed a bit differently this year, focusing on younger alum and with lower challenge levels.

  • Post-Season for the Big West
It seems like the most appropriate matchup for the national championship in this day of NIL and rampant transfers would have been Auburn v Houston - two coaches with very checkered backgrounds when it comes to NCAA violations

I guess I just realized that his brother is the ci-leader of the Sac12?

    Or is it the Sacdependent?

he really doesn’t say anything, does he?

Are they expecting channel 40 to pay big bucks to broadcast games, or a national syndicate?

I guess Tamba is taking advantage of that ‘JC doesn’t count’ ruling? He’s played 3 years of D1 basketball sandwiched around a year at JC.

If you get a kid who started in 20-21 (COVID), took a redshirt, injured, two years at JC….. he could be 27 or so in his ‘senior’ year!

agree. Caleb Fuller left as a grad transfer a couple years back - another one that would have been nice to have for a last year. Caleb, interestingly, was at senior night this year with Leo’s family .

I would think Pablo could get into grad school - he was one of our district all-academic picks. Problem is that business management is one of few (only?) that has a masters program. That’s where Rocek ended up.

I didn’t realize he had another year. He went through senior night; maybe a return like Rocek?

maybe the hope is to fill in their schedule with rest of the Pac 8 and integrate into that conference at some point.

Assuming that conference exists in 2-3 years. Same as us assuming the MWC exists when we’re ready.

In the current state of college football, trying to guess the landscape in 2-3 years seems difficult. The power 4 has taken over.

This is a confusing move unless there’s some plan to slide into a conference after the next (inevitable) conference shakeup. They join UConn, UMASS and Notre Dame as FBS independents. I don’t see any of those three traveling to Sac. Maybe a home/home with some MWC teams, but scheduling once conference okay starts seems challenging!

Probably the cheapest way to go FBS - leave the other sports in a ‘FCS’ (lower mid-major) conference, although there doesn’t seem to be a TV revenue stream to offset costs.

Can’t imagine selling a fee increase to students to pay for this!

Can’t imagine the donors who pledged that $50M NIL money had this in mind.
