Our 2 leading receivers are running backs (Lonzi and Lan).
I still believe this is the issue on offense- and the reason we aren’t winning ballgames.

QB needs to effectively get the ball downfield.
Hastings isn’t necessarily a running threat either. I’m not down on the guy, he is a great leader and effectively running the offense he is being given.

I think it’s been established that Tompkins ain’t gonna be asked to throw the ball downfield as a QB, and there must be a reason why Faulk has never been the starter.

The answer next year might be Dixon with his size, and presumably, arm strength.

With all of that said, I could be completely off-base and the issue could be inexperienced or ineffective WRs! I’ve noticed Babb hasn’t played much, and Chaz Davis looks great at times but seems like he’s got a short leash. I’ve always hoped we would target Castles more downfield- but maybe defenses are keying on him as he seems like our only downfield threat.

My two cents at this point in the season (and sorry if this has been beaten to death).....

QB1's inability to connect consistently on mid-long range passes is doing major damage.
Maier-to-Doss/Harrel changed the entire complexion of the O- it really opened up the running game and the underneath passing game.

Davis just doesn't have the downfield threat to spread out the opposing defense.

Got fight to stay in the game, even though overmatched.
Interesting to see if a close loss to #2 keeps Davis in the T-25

Hastings is SO inaccurate.

Gilliam is a joy to watch. He is single-handedly keeping his team in the game.

I really wish we could throw it down the field.

Barely staying in this game. Offense needs to do something soon. At least keep the D off the field for more than 45 seconds.

SDSU is a good defensive team. Davis offense looks over matched. Also, the drops…..

Was super bummed to see Jake Parks get hurt last week. He's given a lot to the program. Anyone know how he's doing?

Davis hasn't won a game since 11/6/21. That's a 4 game losing streak: EWU, SAC, SDSU, CAL.
As good as the coaches say the team is, the guys need to get a W. Until then, we can expect to be big time 'dogs vs. a team like SDSU.

Hard to keep perspective on how far the program has come since Hawkins arrived. Being consistently ranked and talking about playoffs every year has been fun.

I said early on in the season that this was the most athletically gifted Davis team I've seen personally (since 2004). Seems like we are at conference average or above at nearly every position. I also said that the offense was a sh*t show in week 6 and that really hasn't changed. I'm sure that was a pretty unpopular opinion. Man, this offense has been BAD in the second half overall.

I feel the team stopped improving mid-season. Not having a #1 QB is really hurting this team. I maintain we don't have an identity on offense.

Davis started 5-0. Caught Tulsa sleeping on a Thursday night to open the season. It was a great win for the program. Finished the season 3-3, and it could have been worse. Things were looking pretty bad against UNC until we mowed through all their QBs. Should have blown out a down CP program- but looked pedestrian. Dominated by EWU and SAC.
