• Long Beach St Sharks - new mascot
I also don't get the "S" logo that Slack has adopted. What are those little triangles to the side of the "S"? Is that some kind of martial arts weapon? Something out of a Tolkien book or "Game of Thrones"? Speaking of Tolkien, it sort of reminds me of the illustrations of the dragon in "The Hobbit" - large reptile with very small wings.

    But I digress.
  • Long Beach St Sharks - new mascot
I don't flat out hate the double font, but it looks like something under construction, just waiting for a graphic artist, or some university committee, to decide what to do to complete the block "Davis." Why not just continue the UC letters in the same font. (It would be copying the UCSB logo above, but you could ag-ify it by adding a stem of wheat underneath it, like the current Milwaukee Brewers logo.)

I am neutral on the "invader" font. Looks like someone took a nail clipper to the upper left corners of most of the letters.

I like the lemon, or comet, or Cleveland Indigenous Persons "CA."

I don't have a problem with the horsehead logo that the University launched with such hooplah a few years ago other than it is too busy. As Dr. Mike noted, it does not shrink well. Too much going on to put on shirt sleeves or ball caps.
  • Long Beach St Sharks - new mascot
Probably a better name than "The 49ers." Who nicknames their mascot after the year the school was founded? Particularly given the history (good or bad) of the California gold rush, which had nothing to do with Long Beach or Southern California.

Will the baseball team still call itself the Dirt Bags?
  • I guess I'm not really done. Sorry for the rant.
We also had that guy from Washington, D.C. [Robin Ficker] who sat behind the Wizards' (perhaps the Bullets at the time) bench and unloaded insult after insult. Made national news. His son wrestled for Davis. [Flynn Ficker, HW, early 2000s] He flew out from D.C. to watch UCD wrestling!! I went to one wrestling match, against Iowa.....He blurted out something about "Let's see some of that Iowa corn!" Kind of ironic from a fan of a team called the Aggies.

Goags 20172...sorry to see you go. I enjoyed your insight and obvious love of the game, at least as displayed on this website.
  • Softball Continues to Roll (25-5) with Win Over Cal
Softball's victory over Hawai'i in the regular season finale assures at least a tie for third. A Long Beach loss to CSUN today would give the Aggies sole possession of third. From the article on the sports website there is still some hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA's.

    Go Ags!
  • Big Sky Conference football schedule released through 2023

(That's good because the one on the "twitter" pages has the 2023 schedule on both the 2020 and 2023 pages, and no 2020 schedule....not the correct dates for Saturday in 2020.)
  • Club lacrosse - deja vu all over again
    - I'd say we should look it up in the rule book, but I am not so certain that there are rules in lacrosse.
  • Softball Continues to Roll (25-5) with Win Over Cal
With Fullerton's victory the Ags are eliminated from any conference title, but they trail second place Hawai'i by two games with a three game stand at Hawai'i this weekend. A sweep would put the Ags in second, two wins would put them in a second place tie. Tall order in any event, but this has been a good year for the softball team!

    Go Ags!

PS Edit: Obviously my math failed me and I only counted on my fingers, not my toes. No way the Ags and Wahine were going to tie for second place. With the split on Thursday the Ags remain two games behind Hawai'i with one to go. I THINK that with a win the Ags lock up third, but what do I know?

PPS: They locked up a tie for third, pending the results of Long Beach's game against CSUN on Saturday. A Long Beach loss would help the Aggie's cause.
  • Softball Continues to Roll (25-5) with Win Over Cal
....with only 4 games to go, including three on the road, er, over the sea, at second place Hawai'i.
  • NCAA Men's Volleyball
    Long Beach defeated Hawai'i, 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23), to repeat as NCAA champion.
  • UCD Rugby - Be careful what you wish for...

"My bad!" I thought Berkeley was in Contra Costa County...swore I'd even looked it up. Alameda it is. Will have to change my commentary, when appropriate, to "not even the best in the East Bay...."

This year they were the best in the East Bay. Beat St. Mary's in the regular season and in the playoffs, though both games were close. (One game in Berkeley, one in Moraga, so technically they were the best college team IN Contra Costa County...and in Alameda County....)

    Thanks

    Final championship result....Life University 29, Cal 26
  • 2018-19 Causeway Cup
Ags lost the softball game this afternoon, 6-1.

Running score is UCD 62.5, Sac 25.

That's probably how it will end up this year unless the baseball teams can find a hole in their schedules that would allow them to play their make-up game.

    Go Ags!!
  • Keelan Doss draft hype
Follow up to my earlier post: This writer feels he is one of the eight best undrafted players overall:

  • 2018-19 Causeway Cup
In the track & field Causeway meet the UCD men won, 115-75, while the CSUS women won 114-85. Overall score is now UCD 62.5, CSUS 22.5.

Make up softball game this coming Tuesday at Sac and baseball is still on the TBD schedule, which probably means it won't be due to other scheduling conflicts as the baseball season winds down.

    Go Ags!
  • Name your favorite Sac eatery / place
Wow....going over this thread, a couple of the restaurants mentioned just a year ago are gone....Bandera's, Burr's Ice Cream
