• What is ailing UCD baseball ?
"Could you folks please do me a favor ?

"If I ever start posting about UCD baseball again could you remind me I asked you to tell me not to do that ? That would be greatly appreciated." - Goags20172

    I'm gonna have a t-shirt made.....

Your postings like the opening one on this thread are why we talk you out of the trees at the end of each season. Keep up your insights. It's OK to take a 7th inning stretch once in a while.

    "Wait 'til next year!"
  • Favor to ask
    "This too shall pass."

It's the Cubs and "Wait 'til next year." I say that not to your discredit, but to your credit. You love the game, you love the Ags, you wish they loved you back half as much. I enjoy your commentary though much of it is over my head or brushing me back at the plate. Take a breather. Have a cold lemonade under a shade tree just beyond some outfield fence somewhere, and please come back next season with your insight and spirit.

    Go Ags!
  • The Causeway Cup that wasn't, 2020-2021
Sac swept the track meet with the Hornet men winning 94-75 and the women 103-78. UCD ends up with more non-points in the non-competition, 22.5 - 17.5.
  • The Causeway Cup that wasn't, 2020-2021
Yes, thanks. Corrected. My math wasn't much better than my reading on that one. Thanks again.

And CSUS schedule now includes Causeway Dual Meet.
  • Big Sky Scores
I'm with Dr. Mike on this. Call this a "spring season plus." Take a breather and get ready for fall. One of the things Hawk said way way back when people were talking about a spring season was how hard it would be to play a spring season then turn right around and prepare for a fall season.
  • Big Sky Scores
    Today's other BIg Sky finals:

Weber 19, Southern Utah 16. Weber was down 16-9 after three quarters.
Idaho State 24, Idaho 22. It was Idaho 15, Idaho State 14 at the end of three.
And of course, Cal Poly at Northern Arizona canceled.

Next week has Idaho State at Weber State, Idaho at Eastern Washington and Northern Arizona at Southern Utah.

Barring a COVID issue that ends the conference schedule.

FWIW Montana apparently has scheduled home games against Central Washington next Saturday and Portland State on the 17th.
  • Off Season News
(Better not end up at Oregon....)
  • Brooke Yanez and Oregon softball
OK, so the (retired) attorney in me looked at Brooke's information on the Ducks' roster. The roster list has her prior schools as Buena Vista HS and UC Davis. https://goducks.com/sports/softball/roster
The "full bio" never says anything like 'came to the Ducks after a successful sophomore season at UC Davis,' but does parenthetically note that a couple of prior marks, Single Game Career Highs and Career No-Hitters "include 2018-19 season at UC Davis."
    https://goducks.com/sports/softball/roster/brooke-yanez/10209

So UC Davis gets three recognitions, but you have to look for them.
  • Brooke Yanez and Oregon softball
Much as I wish people like Brooke would stay, I can't blame her for leaving for the opportunity to compete at that level. She has clearly shown she can do it. What few things are available to her in that sport (Olympics?) are more likely to happen from a Pac12 setting. Just think the Ducks could acknowledge her previous school.
  • Brooke Yanez and Oregon softball
Oregon athletics owes UCDavis too much to be slighted like this. Does the name Mike Belotti sound familiar? And of course many of Belotti's assistants....
  • 2021 Men's NCAA Tournament
I'm a Big 10 fan by genes and a midwest upbringing, but they need to limit their talk to wrestling this year.

(Though I never feel too bad if An Ohio State University or Meech-i-gan go down.)

And Iowa adds to the Big Ten woes...
  • WBB: #5 Missouri State (21-2) vs the Aggies (13-2) 4:30 pm PT, Monday, March 22nd
Time for an upset in the Women’s NCAA. ALL of the top seeds won on Sunday.
  • 2021 Men's NCAA Tournament
Read a couple of predictions on ESPN.com saying Illinois was going to take it all. Oooops! Big 10 was playing some good ball in the middle of the season, given that this is a weird season and most games were in-conference, but they are not doing well in the NCAA tourney. Ohio State, Purdue and now Illinois upset and WIsconsin trailing Baylor late.

(But Iowa won the NCAA wrestling championship so order is restored in the world.)

How about former D-2 Abilene Christian knocking off Texas?
  • Font size change
I try to blame such things on the computer too. My kids aren't having it.

    Sorry, I got nothin'.
  • R.I.P. D2 football in California
I think when I started the “student fees” were $68.50 per quarter and quickly jumped to a whopping $108.50. Probably in the $300.00 range by the time I graduated. No, we could not pay with a couple of chickens or a calf.

But by the time of the D2 Football.com boards the tales of tuition-free or outright free-free education for California residents was a thing of the past.

Of course someone can now do some research and prove just how much my memory is failing me.
  • No fan attendance-how are you holding up ?
Looks like they River Cats weren't going to Texas this year anyway, and with the delayed opening they won't even play the Skeeters this season.
  • No fan attendance-how are you holding up ?
When the PCL redoes its schedule...again...maybe you can get to Texas to see the River Cats play the Sugar Land Skeeters.

This really sounds like a Disney movie.

    I love minor league nicknames.
  • No fan attendance-how are you holding up ?
It is a small positive that restaraunts are looking for help, though it is probably part time and can't match unemployment benefits, at least for a while. The entire hospitality industry has been hit pretty hard. And no, let's not go too far down this road here.
