  • The Fate of the Grad
One place that I am surprised left town not to return was Nation's Giant Hamburgers. You could always tell when the dorm menu was particularly disappointing by the line at Nation's. I know no one will believe me but when it opened hamburgers were $.65 and cheeseburgers were $.75. That was also when keyboards had the symbol for "cents."

No, there was not a hitching post out front.

    Lord, I feel old.
  • AST 2022 Fund Drive
    BUMP

By my math the mean donation is $30.00 and some change, the mode and median are $20.00.

2 to 3 "average" donations and we've got this wrapped up before Christmas!

Slack's game at UCR schedued for last Sunday the 19th was apparently canceled at the last minute because of COVID issues with the Highlanders. https://www.hornetsports.com/sports/mbkb/2021-22/releases/20211219qmka34

    Thanks for doing this.

  • IM Program at UC Davis
Then there's that school in South Bend, IN, that, at least prior to the pandemic, had a tackle football intramural league.

I was actually pictured in the Aggie for participation in an IM sport. Lot of people wrapped their garbage with that issue.

...and with the re-hire of Tedford, Haener withdrew from the transfer portal,
(which makes you wonder why he entered it before knowing who the next coach would be, unless it was to go back to Washington,)

One of the great memories of my time at Davis was playing IM sports. Great exercise, great opportunity for social interaction. There was a spring touch football league in which several teams had varsity players. As close as I ever got to intercollegiate sports. I think I still have a bruise or two.

I think many of the HBCU's have traditions and even contractual commitments that conflict with the NCAA playoff schedules. The Celebration Bowl is an annual game pitting the SWAC champion against the MEAC Champion.

Florida A&M did in fact play in the playoffs this year.

Davis played Bethune Cookman in a D-II playoff game in 1977.

And as I recall there was a time when Tuskegee had to choose between the D-II playoffs and their traditional Turkey Day game agains Alabama A&M. Similarly Grambling and Southern play in their Bayou Classic on the Saturday after Thanksgiving which would conflict with the FCS playoffs.
  • CFL star QB (and Slack State alum) to miss CFL playoff game in bizarre tale
Whole thing is bizarre. In the end Bethel-Thompson did play in the game, however the Argos lost to the Hamilton Ti-Cats, 27-19.

With the early signing date for D-1 football it may already be too late to bring in a new coach and get any recruiting done. That's December 15th this year. I think if Sac had kept winning it would have made it harder for Taylor to leave, etc. I can't see him pulling a Kelly or Riley and leaving when the team still has games to play.

Big game and the SC game may have saved Wilcox' job. This isn't the SEC where he'd be canned for a sub .500 year.

That in turn means the AD is not meeting with Troy Taylor for lunch today.

As soon as I hit "Post Comment" there will be a press release from Berkeley proving me wrong, yet again, and it's just past 9:00 AM.

I suspect neither the Bears nor the Trojans want to be playing this game, and SC probably wants it less.

Beating Long Beach State, the Gold Coast champ, was as good as hanging with USC. At some point the Ags should probably leave the WWPA and join our Big West brethren in the Gold Coast, but let's enjoy this for the present.

UPDATE: Sunday's championship final: Cal 13, USC 12.

"There are no moral victories," but this was a moral victory.
  • 2021 FCS Football Playoffs
With only SDSU at Sac left to play the home team has won every second round game.
