Ags defeated Sac in men's tennis today, 6-1. Running Causeway Cup score is now UCD 35, Sac 10.

Beach volleyball schedules are now up, but I have no idea if they will be included in Causeway Cup this year. Ags and Hornets are scheduled to play 3 or 4 times. Three times at Sac, (???) and apparently once at a tournament in So. Cal. Without beach volleyball there are 85 points at stake this year so another 10 will keep the cup, (is there a physical trophy??) where it is happiest.

Next scheduled event is gymnastics at Davis next Sunday, the 27th.

This will put some stress on the budget, especially in the west..."the program will compete as an FCS independent."

Things I learned...as I did a little googling after your comment I learned that while there are a lot of geldings out there, it is very rare to spay a female horse. It is apparently risky, in part because their abdomen is not suited for such an operation. Somewhere there must be a struggling energetic lawyer who will take on this equal (equine) protection case on behalf of male horses everywhere. (Just saw “On the Basis of Sex” this weekend.)

I imagine the gender of the horses for the equestrian team doesn't count for Title IX purposes, huh?

Siouxfan....your suggestions are interesting in a hypothetical, armchair philosopher sort of way, but I don't see any likelihood in the foreseeable future of directional and "at" teams from California playing directional and "at" teams from Texas in a common league.

Of more immediate concern to you, it looks like it may be time to take a break from gazing into the future and focus on the UND hockey team in the present. Bad weekend for the Skating Hawks.

Way, way back, when the Ags were in D2 and had a presence on the d2football.com site I remember one of the frequent writers, possibly an administrator, noting that he was going to miss the Aggie members when the team left D2. The writer's general opinion was that the Ags on the board were smart, good natured, Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent...very little of the trolling, ranking, dissing and jawing that takes over some fansites. It was good to read. I hope it stays that way.

Thanks to some google and a little bit of my aging memory...the stands at Hornet Field were expanded in '91(??) for the Sacramento Surge of the World League of American Football. As I recall they were purchased from the Rose Bowl committee, or whoever provided seating for the Tournament of Roses Parade. In '93 (again ???) the end zone seats were removed to accomodate the longer field needed for Canadian Football League and the Sacramento Gold Miners. The whole CFL experiment with teams in the US folded in about '95. And there was a collapse of a section of the bleachers during a Causeway game, resulting in some serious injury to an Aggie fan who was an attorney.

If the B1G were to take Texas and Oklahoma the conference would have 16 members. It is already too big to manage with 14.

Sac has a gym that is smaller than most high school gyms. They have a large capacity football stadium which is a basic high school field and hand-me-down bleachers purchased from the Tournament of Roses folks. There's a difference in having 15K seats and having 15K butts paying to sit in them.

The Big Ten is currently at 14 teams...It makes football scheduling unmanageable. I think they currently play the other 6 teams in their own division and two teams in the other. If you're in the West you might play Rutgers and Indiana....or you might play Michigan and An Ohio State University. I believe that will change in the next year or two and teams will play the six in their own division and three in the other division.

In basketball teams now interupt the non-conference early season to play two conference games in early December before finishing the month with tournaments and non-conference games.

Ironically at one time there were ten teams in the Big Twelve and twelve teams in the Big Ten.

Who'd think that we might have done better against their football team this year than against their men's basketball team?

The WAC has devolved into an MPSF with a pedigree, simply an affiliation of teams into an ersatz league where no other conference exists. Teams change with the sanctioned sports.

The originator of the babble in this thread appears to be a UND fan...a team that has left the Big Sky, for understandable reasons of geography and the possibility of reuniting with former D-II NCC foes like the other Dakota schools.

There are certainly other reasons that Hawk and Taylor could "come home," keeping in mind that Taylor is returning to Sacramento, but not to his collegiate alma mater. Hawk's career took off and then hit some bumps in Colorado and Montreal...he was out of coaching for awhile. Taylor was by many accounts on a merry-go-round for offensive coordinators as Wittingham apparently discards O.C.s like old socks. It gave Taylor a chance to reunite with many associates from Folsom High.....the list goes on.

None of the California FCS schools really have the facilities or budgets to currently make the jump to FBS level football.

I remember when Slack made the move to D-1 there was talk of leaving UCD in the rear view mirror, but the Ags took the time to do it right. Look who made it to the football play-offs first.

Not too concerned about what a UND fan tosses out there about a league that his favorite team has chosen to leave.

Good thing the Causeway game is played BEFORE Thanksgiving....though it might be ugly at the Richardson family table after the game, too.
